Never a Black fly near Lake Simcoe . Tomorrow will tell , great weather for this one . I'll swim at Beaverton beach too and hopefully catch perch from the pier . I remember how the Black flies bite . They crawl up and into the hair of the back of your head , then go to work . Lots of blood and scars for a while . They need cold rocky creeks / streams to hatch . Simcoe has none , warm waters .

Spent the past three days doing rear iso swap out. About 30 hrs put in, with all the ancillary issues that crop up along the way. The isos I pulled out, nearly as hard as hockey pucks, not from age but a bad compound. New are AN and easy to squish and squash with fingers.
Should be good to go for a test tomorrow morning. Really hoping the bad vibrations are solved.

I've been mostly trying to pin down an increasingly loud and worrying squeak, which sounds a little like a blowing head gasket, but was doing it when I kicked it over with the ignition off.

History:
As part of a ground-up restoration I replaced the pistons with new (in case there was a mismatch between the '70 spec pistons and the available rings I fitted), but it made no difference.
I levelled the head on a surface plate and replaced the copper head gasket to no effect.
I removed the barrels and levelled them on the surface plate, and rebuilt with a composite head gasket - no effect.

I took the head & barrels off again to check for any cracks, but couldn't find any.

After I refitted the barrels I kicked the motor over without the head, and it still squeaked!

Today I noticed oil under the points housing 'distributor' blanking plate (20M3S motor), and on stripping I found a fragment of alloy thread trapped in the gasket, which must have come out of the case when I was fitting the screws originally.

Around 3 days I won't get back, but it's been character building!

I recall the early 'Mk 3 Type' full replacement Iso kits from around 10 years ago being really stiff, but the recent ones are far more compliant - as you've found.
Can't remember who was selling the stiff ones, but it wasn't A-N.
I could speculate, but that really wouldn't be fair!

Have you got a reed valve breather on it?

They can make funny sounds at times.
 
My dentist is going to cry. Ride is now dreamy, creamy smooth over 3k. Infact around 4k it is like floating in the dead sea, so begs to run fast!
 
New brake pads on front - must have splashed rotor and caliper with brake fluid when topping off master cylinder when readying bike after winter lay up . Front brake getting increasingly greasy.
Didn’t fool around and cleaned rotor with isopropyl alcohol and replaced pads with new . Before I bin the pads has anyone had success with cleaning them ?

Good observation - Ironically no it didn't, but part of this weekend's activities included removing the timed breather and fitting a PCV.
It did sound similar to a PCV, but way louder, the valves generally get 'lost in the noise' with the engine running, but not this one!
Just fired it back up and problem definitely solved.

Be sure to check for fork oil seeping out right side on to disk. Mine is doing that and hope to fix it tonight with fresh damper rod seal.
Cleaning pads with brake cleaner does seem to improve grip for awhile until more oil leaks. But likely not as good as new pads.

Best bug spray I've found is some of the eucalyptus oil types. We had it on during a shore trip on Alaska cruise. Others in our groups just had the deep woods/DEET stuff and were mugged by the swarms. We were fine.
