What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Last week The car in front of me clipped a grouse flying out of a ditch. Pulled over the Norton , walked back and picked it up for dinner. Perfect head clip. A good day , plus 5 brook trout on ice in the saddlebag. Yeah
Man, It'd be great to meet You ! Long ways from S.E. Iowa...
If only to ride up into Canada for a vacation, however, I think my 53 y.o. Commando would have a better chance of making that far a trip than it's 61 y.o. owner !!!

Well you seem to have done better than my one and only grouse hunting trip to Maine … guess I should have brought a motorcycle instead of scattergun and bird dog . LOL

Removed the head..

Thankyou LAB. After spending all day cleaning up all 5 separate ground points on the bike Cleaned up with a dab of dielectric grease . And the switch. No difference. It's a slow short .
Tips on tracing a slow short ? Fuse does not blow but everything weak and flickering . Battery good at 1 1/2 years , holding 12. 40 on the new voltmeter. Thanks all . I have tomorrow free to disconnect circuits.

12.4 volts is getting a bit low should be up to 12.8 fully charged anything below 12.5 is getting low.

Thanks but there is a slow short somewhere. I believe this is the issue..I'll start disconnecting circuits tomorrow.

Try removing bulbs first. My mate had a similar issue and spent days trying to find it. Stripped all the loom, nothing wrong. Eventually removed the stop / tail bulb and the short disappeared. Also if you have standard switches, loosen or remove them. The soldered terminations maybe touching the bars.

Likely a bit drained after dicking around trying to find the slow short.
This morning the battery was settled in at 12.5 V. after a charge up.
To be honest I've been through many batteries over the years and none settled in at 12. 8 V. Always less .

Moved the ignition switch up onto the top triple clamp. Made what is basically an extension lead rather than hack the loom so it is completely reversible.

I'm guessing you have the climate for the ignition in that position
Not so good in the UK I ended up moving mine to the side panel on my t140e
And recently I had issues with my t160 purely because of rain getting in
This is despite the rubber slot cap

No worries Baz, I went all out with sealing the back of the switch and I will fit a removable seal over the top as well. Just could not get used to the switch in its original position. Naff.

I resurfaced my rocker covers with the wet/dry on a steel table tip. Then I gave them a nice polish. I also did a little wiring on my rear turn signals in anticipation of getting my diode kit.

had the primary inner and LH Z plate ally welded for renovation purposes , all ready for a new build. Mothers chrome polish bought, and sure gives a good shine after buffing the Z plates on a wheel first!

Tidied up (emptied) the spare downstairs bedroom, cobbled together a makeshift ramp and rolled the mk2 right in there for a more comfortable fettle session.

Bonzo! I'm right there with you. My Combat has been inside with me since she arrived two years ago. She's been company for me during zoom calls for work and definitely is a talking piece on the calls and good distraction with me working on bits and pieces here and there. Since I have the 850 in the garage that I ride, not much rush in getting her roadworthy just yet. I agree, excellent decor, and excellent use of space!

Rode my mk III to my favorite watering hole. Cursed a woman for running the stop sign on the way! So I had a double! Came back home stopping only to agitate a fellow Norton owner who hasn't ridden it for a few years!
