What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Old motorcyclist here (68) but, FNG on Nortons. Mk 3 just bought two weeks ago and finding stuff to fix. So far: broken wire inside insulation at rectifier / regulator, leaking shifter shaft seal in backwards, dissemble trans to check lay shaft roller brg is present, front brake caliper leaking new kit installed, wonky signals replaced flasher, head mount springs had no tension set at 1.5", forks had much stickion loosed all up and jounced forks, rear brake mc had travel stop too close set at 9mm. There is more but that is the worst of it so far. I love the bike so far, wanted a Cdo for ages. My BMW' s and Ducati are being ignored.

Welcome Steve! I love my Duc, but I love my Cdo more!

Welcome Steve! Send us some pics of your bike mate. You may be an old motorcyclist, but you sure know your way around that Commando for just getting it:) I'm a younger motorcyclist with a fraction of know-how that you have.

This machine racked up another 60 miles for 10 bucks. Not factoring anything else except fun, plus another few hours removing the bug grease , and giving thanks for some more smiles per hour.

Removed the original TT100 tyres from my Dunlop (F) & Jones (R) rims ready for dropping off for a new set of the same tomorrow.

They're only 48 years old. A bit wasteful I know.

The front rim is in particularly exquisite condition given it's age.

I shall be spending the rest of the evening loafing on the sofa as that ball ache of a job has left me completely knackered!

Heading into town on the Fastback this morning.
Gotta get some groceries, my old Bronco is fun to drive, but not so much to watch the gas gauge plummet....
(unless inclement weather 2 wheels will be my mode for the foreseeable)..not a bad thing,,,except;
I reckon it'll be an interesting trip. Gonna have to utilize 2 backpacks, one on said back, and
the other strapped to my front side. But that'll keep the total bill lower as well, only the essentials,
as that is all I can fit ! It's been a warm start to the riding season here, to say the least. Low 90's,
and more than necessary humidity that any human should have to endure.
I will get a pic of what fit and post it.
Anticipation for the wind, and the sound of my 51 year old cycle-soul-mate as I prepare..

Well, the hot dog buns didn't fare so well, surprisingly the bread did ! Thank the Lord for
the Aldi's grocery store, prices higher than they were of course, but managed to stay
under $20.OO USD. I noted a couple of people had loaded their stuff, and ready to leave,
but had to stick around to see if I could manage the 2 bags and kick-starting. As usual,
the bike didn't let me down, first kick, then the wind, and outta town !

Loaded up and then fitted the saddlebags . Fishing and camping gear for the Paris , Ont. CVMG Fairgrounds Wknd. Norton parts for sale went ahead of me today in Fraser's van.

Lucky You. I don't fish where I live. Not that I don't like to, however, the muddy
rivers and ponds here don't compare to casting a line in Northwest Montana waters
when I visit my brother and 2 sisters. Enjoy !

I have leather throw over saddle bags and can use them on all my bikes, but my Thruxton has the saddle bag supports that I made and I also have a 24ltr bag on the back rack surprising what can be carried in all 3 bags and a case of beer on top of the saddle bags and seat.

Oil and filter change on my new to me Mk iii. Removed both screens and the oil tank as it had some "almost sludge" trapped under the drain plug level. Absolute PIA. New Mahle OC5 filter and VR1 20/50. Thanks

I ordered super-bike bars (they have about a 3 1/2" rise) and two bar end mirrors from Dennis Kirk. The box arrived mid week with no bars and only one mirror (it looked like the box had been broken opened.) I let them know and they promptly sent the bars. The other mirror is on back order. I work in parts and it seems that my personal life reflects my work life!

I got out in the garage yesterday afternoon, swapped out the bars and installed the one mirror on the left side. I finished up this morning because it's pretty hot out there. It makes a huge difference in comfort and control. These new bars are more suited to my body. I do not have to reach so far and the grip placement is more natural. The bar end mirror is more usable than the old bar mounted item. The mirror I took off went on my Triumph so it will pass inspection. If I ever get my second mirror I will be pleased.
