What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?

Is that 530 chain notching or gouging the side of the gearbox or Primary inner?
I am amazed that it fits without interference. I am assuming it is a 74?
 
I was depressed because after a lot of work on the 1973 Aermacchi (Harley sprint) It Still Does Not Run. @#$%^#$%^&$%^!!!! I put my tools away and rode the Norton to where some friends were eating brunch, hung with them for a bit and came home. After 35 miles on Nort I feel much better.

You will have to replace the drive sprocket , chain and final brake sprocket as a complete set . $ Sorry to give you the news . This means the primary has to come apart and reassembled to achieve this state of repair .
 
Why I stick to a normal size chain, no problems and cheaper I still get very long life out of my chain and sprockets because I look after them and my last chain I got over 40k miles, new one from Andy the chain man before he retired, I lost a retaining clip on the last chain when sticking into it at a set of lights so thought I replace the whole chain, so next one will be from Jason the chain man.

I am concerned that the rear sprocket and drive sprocket are very much out of alignment. When you install the replacments, please check that the rear sprocket is on the same plane as the drive sprocket

It was a loose 1-piece axle that allowed the cocking.
There was nothing wrong with the chain that caused this.
What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?
 
Went riding on the Commando for the first time in over three months since the off, totally enjoyed the sound and feel in spite of being a bit apprehensive beforehand. Those feelings soon passed, had no issues at all, just in time for some pleasant weather riding.
 
I had previously made a jig for my lathe when doing a Triumph speedo. Wood block on back of speedo presses the housing down on the seals. Chuck turned by hand, and bezel edge gets rolled round by a bearing attachment on the toolholder. Gradually change the angle until rolled fully over. (Should have taken a "during" photo!) Same principal as the original tool, I believe.

What Did You Do With Your Commando Today?
 
Torqued the cylinder head hardware to hopefully stop a minor oil weep at front left that blows back onto side cover. A couple did tighten under the torque wrench so we’ll see as the usual suspects for this are all good. Modified a 1/2 inch ring spanner to 1/4 Whit to fit on that nut at the back between the cylinders.
Also tweaked inlet valve rocker clearances while tank was off, exhausts were ok. Spark plug colors looked healthy.
 
1000 Km. trip to Lion's Head and back to Toronto . New rubber , nothing broke except for a heated vest lead at the battery . Ignored it . Wife on back and camping gear and fishing rod . Caught a 3 lb. Smallie and a 2 . Released the 2 , food for us for 2 days . Locals said the Salmon were just comin' in now . Lots of compliments on the bike looks , as per usual . Bruce trail crowded with new Canadians of Indian decent . All in all , a great trip with no mechanical problems . Enjoy .
