This past weekend down at Virginia International Speedway we were able to clinch the 2010 BEARS National Championship, 4th year in a row, on my Seeley Commando. I somehow managed to win 10 of my 11 BEARS races this season (the one loss was due to a bonehead stalling of the bike on the starting line in the rain and finished 2nd).

I can not say enough about the motor I'm running this year. I haven't done a thing to it other than change the oil, and re-torque and adjust the valves a few times. It can keep up with the best 750s out there on the racing grids right now. I'm a happy bloke.

Most of what I'm running are "off the shelf" Commando bits available to anyone for their street bikes, such as an unmodified FullAuto Head, JS Motorsports' high compression rods/pistons, and the very trick CNW breather, all set-up by our esteemed Jim Comstock. It hasn't leaked a drop running a hard life at 7500 RPM, and for once I have a bike that is smoother than any other parallel twin in the paddock. It was a team effort with a lot of input from all parties involved, and ALL of it was good.

So, it's holiday racing for the rest of the season. I will be in Utah at Miller Motorsports next month, and then on to Barber Motorsports in October. I invite anyone to come hang out in the paddock and talk Nortons. In fact, Maria Costello will be coming over from the UK for Barber and will be taking my bike out for a race or two. If you don't know Maria, I suggest you google her. You will see how she will give my bike provenance and class!

Thank you Ken Canaga, Jim Schmidt, Ken Corcram, Matt Rambow, and of course Jim Comstock. These are the guys who make Nortons go.

Congrats, Kenny. Well done, and well earned.

Also, to all of those listed who made the whirly bits do thier thing: well done, indeed!

Ah crap Kenny, I asked you to hold back before Barbers's now Wes and me will miss the real racing, as who will even try to catch up for no chance of wining totals, ugh.
I remember a couple years ago, you let a big BMW lead for about half a lap before you warmed up or BMW gave up, as you worked up to 125 cc corner speeds!

Glad to know you add extra points in engine performance by its smoothness factor.
Can you differentiate the basic crank oscillation vibes from the valve train and drive train ones?

Oh man, now I'm going to have to enlage my shop door so I can get my head through.
Thanks for the kind words kenny. Jim

Well bigger helmet door space would match the heavy duty seat to carry around the extra groin mass.

Yeah Kenny - and there will be more to come. Its a pleasure to have your bike stay together from race to race and its a testiment to good products and technology. I'm hoping more racers and street riders will see the light and use lightweight pistons and longer rods to reduce vibration & stress so their bikes will stay together and be reliable.

hi kenny, well done and ,its been a long time coming but now you,ve got some great guys backing you up im sure there will be more wins and championships to come,be good to know what new developements kc js and jc are working on

Kenny,

Great job. Congratulations.

I know you got some good equipment underneath you but it wouldnt do much unless it had your talent taking it through the twisties. Its just a great combination of both.

Thanks for the nice feedback and I well see what we can do to make it even better for next year.

Don't forget he was BEARS champ in 2007, 2008 & 2009...

No stranger to that top step on the podium!

Right on, thanks for the support folks.

In all honesty, I'm not trying to blow my own horn here as much as I'm trying to convey that I have one mean Mutha of a Motor, and you can too! There really was no special secret. That's what is most remarkable. In fact I admit there were times when I was skeptical as it was being drawn up, using a lot of the same stuff we are running on our street bikes. But there are some really talented Norton folks behind me who are thinking of the big picture (see them in my signature below), and that's what has made it work so well. I wish I could bolt it up into all your bikes so you could take it for a run, and you'd see what I mean!

Thanks for the link and the story it contains, Great stuff!!!! Keep up the great work as you make us Norton owners proud, Is Willow Springs on the calendar for you during the next season? We make it to the track every so often, Love to see the bike in person and also hear it run. Once again GREAT job! Chuck.

Great news. I'm glad we could help. I might just have to come over next year and watch a race or two. It'll be worth every cent spent.

Congratulations.

Maybe we could have a field trip and you would let all of us take your bike for a ride? Not all at once mind you...

Joking aside, this is a terrific accomplishment for both the builders and rider. Care to share any tips on swingarms and isolastics? Suspension?
