Holland Norton Works advertises "The Perfect Commando"

Looking at the specs I can think of some ways to do better.
The Perfect Commando

The Perfect Commando

Brembo? Ok.
Quaife? Not bad.
Black Diamond Valves and Megacycle cam? I can live with that.
Carillo Rods? Nope, going with Jim Schmidt's set up in a heartbeat.
Single coil, Sparx alternator, and pictured is a Boyer. Dunno if the Sparx is the best alternator out there. As for the Boyer, um, WTF? Trispark.
Bridgestones? I guess.
IKON rear shocks. Hmmm, I think there are better shocks than that.
Bunch of stainless. I can dig that.
Iincludes their $1000 seat.
For that much money I'd see if I could weasel an EFI out of Jim Comnoz. Otherwise might go with some flatslides.

What could you do with $30k (which is what they are asking for their "perfect Commando...)?

30K !!!!!!!!!!!
I think someone could find a bike, make it mechanically correct, splurge a little (IE Brembo, belt primary, trispark, etc.) have a very nice paint job done, and spend less than half of that. Of course, they would have to do the work themselves.

ALL Commandos are "perfect".

NO Commando is "perfect".

BOTH of the above statements are true.

For 30k I could have two runners, one on the rack to play with and enough money to buy what I wanted for them...now that would be "perfect"!

Of course the definition would eventually change and the money would run out. But then nothing is meant to last forever.

Well, let's see now. I do have two runners, and if I added up all the receipts I'm pretty sure I'd have about $25K between the two bikes. Plus hundreds of hours of my time. And there's always more to do. GP expressed it perfectly.

If you have to pay someone else to do the work, and you want it done right, it's gonna cost.

ps to swoosh - I'm pretty sure Jim Schmidt's kit uses Carillo rods

That seat is a Corbin Gunfighter.That's a 50% + markup!

The top one is a Corbin but the bottom picture shows the HMW seat, which looks similar. Not sure why the price difference.

Hehe, perfect is as perfect does which makes this a perfectly schizophrenic concept. A perfect factory Norton is an incomplete kit right out the box with planned problems built in perfectly to reproduce repeatedly. CNW makes similar claims if ya read between their lines of the price sheet. Every one off special is
to someone.
On the other side of perfect orbit apogee lies Ms Peel in prefect gestating recline
kicking here, putting a root out there and evolving asset mutations everywhere.

The most pleasure I've ever gotten out of a Corbin seat was selling one for a few dollars more than I bought it for (bought it used).

I'm pretty sure that Jim Schmidt uses Carrillo rods

Yes, but they not the same as common Carrillo rods for Nortons - they are lighter on the small end because they are bushless for the special DLC pins - so they shake less and are still just as strong. They are also longer and that takes stress off the motor, reduces vibration and makes for more efficient combustion - more HP. A lot of research went into these proprietary rods.

And they KICK ASS! :D

Have you talked to HNW about using your stuff? Sad to have an ultimate Commando without them.

Answer: buy a new 961 Commando and also any "imperfect" old Commando fully restored. :)

Except the one guy on the forum who bought a new one hasn't shown his face since.

Either that means he is embarrassed for spending that much money on junk or he's too busy having fun with it and doesn't have time to post.

Let's hope it's the latter situation. Hey Richard, hows about some pics? We know you're out there...

with $30,000 I'd take six months off, ship my less-than-perfect commando to thailand, and live like a king.

Sure it's a lot of money but if you have your Commando customized to a certain extend you will pay the price and compare this HNW ($30k) "Perfect Commando" to the CNW ($26k + donorbike) "Reborn Commando" they equal. So hey what's new?!

Telly you what, anyone ready to plunk down $30K for a "perfect" Commando can have my silver monoshocker AND a new 961 (when they get here). That's close enough to perfect that other people's opinions won't matter!
