While pulling the cylinders for re-ringing, I've noticed that one of right-side tappets has some pitting on the stellite face, right where the high point of the cam rides. The cam looks clean under 16X magnification, but I sure don't want to put that pair back in as-is.

So, I gotta decide, should I have this pair ground, or just bite the bullet & buy new? I think it'll take at least 0.008 to clean up, how much could safely be ground off before rocker geometry becomes an issue? ('74 Commando)

Any opinions gratefully considered!

Thanks!

I think that you will get away with that. How are the head and cylinder faces ? If they need a light skim to correct any warpage then you'll compensate for the followers.

Are your followers original ? If so, I would replace them with the later spigotted lost-wax cast type - much less likely to lose a stellite pad.
