Hey guys. It seems my supposed 3 month old battery has given up or I have the mystery battery drain problem. Either way, I need to remove the tank which I have done loosely once to jump the battery but I do need to remove it for a new battery install and battery tender. Are there any tricks or quirks to know about before hand that could be usefull to know? Maybe delicate parts, clips that are a pain and so on? I don't want to make any mistakes that may cause me to have to deal with ordering parts from Norton and waiting a century. Also, I know this is a silly question but will I need to drain the fuel or is the fuel connector by chance a one way check valve type that won't allow the fuel to drain after disconnected? If I can do the work here at my apartment without draining it would be nice or else I'll have to get it to my shop. Thanks, ever helpful Norton owners!

Do you not have a charger lead already connected on your bike direct from the factory ? Look for a wire pushed into the top of the rear suspension side stand side.

That manual from Richard and in above CNW link is awesome.

I can also testify to getting excellent service from Callum at Norton directly should you ever need parts. Longest wait I have had is 3 weeks for specific bike parts (model, color, etc) and general shared parts a matter of days.

No need to drain tank , careful when pressing button on the fuel release nozzle,it's a half circle collar pushing in 1 or 2 mm all that's needed,it's exactly the side of the nozzle where Richard 7 has his pencil in the picture, once pulled off its a few drops of fuel( fuel pump holds all the fuel in ),when refitting u will here it click over the ridge on the red nozzle from pump ,don't break it ( see my broken fuel spigot thread) ,I use an optimate lead directly connected to battery.

I used a few layers of painters masking tape under the triple tree to avoid contact with the tank. That manual is great. Thanks again, Richard.

Thanks everyone that's all a great help. Sorry for the delay in responding to my own post. My new fiancé broke her foot shortly after the ennetial post so it all escaped me for a few days. I had no idea a plug existed on these bikes for charging or tending. It's a 2014 I recieved in September 14 so I'm not sure if it came with one but I'll check real soon. Again thanks everyone.

So I just checked to see if there was a plug under the bike, stand side, by shock mount and there was. It was pushed up under the bike pretty good but I managed to get it out and found it had about three inches of slack to make access easier. The new question is which plug type is it? It's white, one side is a circular socket and the other is best described as a backwards D. This looks like the old power wheels charger plugs or even an RC car battery pack plug from way back. Is this what ctek calls their" old style" plug?

Hi In short, Yes. I have changed mine but this appears to be the standard fitted charger point. Sometimes the polarity has to be reversed depending on what charger you use.

Ctek sells a suitable connector for use with their (excellent) chargers. I have one and it works perfectly.

I had no luck finding an adapter last May when I needed it so I found a female SAE to TM adapter on eBay and modified it using a Dremel to round off the the corners of the connector. Once I figured out the correct polarity it served as my temporary fix until I finally get around to removing the tank to change the lead to SAE. I will install a new Shorai battery at the same time.
