Tab-tanked Domi!

Well I never - I’ll go to the foot of our stairs! I should look at the content of my own posts! Dammit, now I’m gonna have to go incognito!

May have to look at black lettering with a subtle gold pinstripe edging after all!

The real dilemma of course, which years logo to use?

TVS Norton it would appear have opted for this: more modern - less curves.

Thats just the standard plastic tank. I'm thinking of just having the side panels painted on. I like the full painted tank look, but if I keep the centre strip of the aluminium tank polished, then it'll tie in nicely with the front mudguard that I'm using

It was only just before it went belly up that the font matched, as they used a batch of dubious quality Indian sourced engine covers which had the SG era Norton font. The other covers you can tell a mile off if they're Indian or British made.

If we’re being ones to share opinions, I like the aluminum front fender but I’d paint the mount brackets

I think that means I have the substandard Indian knock off engine covers, and am just about to fit a Rizoma rear brake resevoir to match the front - my bike is getting less English by the day! Good job I have the TAB tank on the way to redress the balance.

That TAB Monza cap looks like it has quite an unusually high profile Stu. How does it compare to the Monza cap on the Norton ally tank? Do you have one to compare? Or am I talking bollox? Thanks

No, the English covers had the old font...well...the 2010 font. The Indian covers had the same as whats on your tank. They were pretty shocking though, blow holes in the castings and quite often warped.
Ive not got one to compare with, with regards the monza cap. Most SS's only had the screw cap. The tank follows the lines of the plastic tank closer than those of the Norton aluminium tank...so I think it looks higher in that respect. Domiracer #1 had a slightly different aluminium tank, that had a higher looking profile shape, that the Tab tank reminds me of. The Tab tank to me looks quite aggressive in its shape.

This is an Indian cover. See where a blow hole has been welded up, left of the N? They were visually very different internally too. The only real improvement that I saw, was the front sprocket cover no longer needed the three spacers fitting.

Good news Stu, the cover you show is a shocker. Mine have polished up nicely with the magic of Autosol. That stuff‘s so good I often spread it on my toast.

I prefer the more period look of the Monza cap but the TAB cap looks quite high, profile wise. I may be wrong. The original Norton cap (detail provided by Voodooo) looks better I think. I’ll discuss it with TAB.

I like the quite radical (aggressive if you like) shape of the plastic tank knee scallops. So to hear the TAB tank best represents that is good news. Difficult to tell until you see one in the flesh.

The Tab cap has the breather incorporated into it....so what ever other cap you choose, it'll have to either have a similar breather, or do it the same as Norton and have a breather pipe as part of the tank.

And Autosol is great....but Mothers Mag & Alu is better, imo. Gives a better shine that seems to last longer too.

Mega rough sketch out on my phone...but will be along this idea.
