Tab 2 vs Donington Aluminum Gas Tanks differences

Haven’t asked for a few months Cliffa - somehow it still feels disrespectful. The last update stated that they are consentrating on their standard tank range, but may return to the 961 tank in the future. I didn’t enquire further. I understood that they were planning to train another family member to weld the Norton tank but I’m not sure. Stu knows more - I think he’s stayed in contact.

I would still love to purchase one, although I’m still faffing around trying to work out how to fit the Thruxton fairing:rolleyes:!
Have you ever considered Evan Wilcox?
He made hand made aluminum tanks for Kenny Dreer

I hadn’t heard of Evan, but have just looked at his site Voodoo. He’s obviously a real craftsman, although doesn’t list the 961 at all, that I can see.

Happy to wait for the TAB tank - mine was next off the production line, cut, rolled and ready to be welded when the disaster with Mark occured. If they are starting again my guess is they’ve got a good few orders backed up, so hope to see mine in due course.

I see my CR as a long term project; tank, Thruxton fairing, new paint job to tie those to the tail unit. Toying with sending my engine casings back to Harry Overton for a proper polish. Don’t really care how long it takes. Ya need to get yours out of mothballs Voodoo, let’s see some pics of those beauties rolling👍

Until I’m able to acquire spare parts, mine will sit parked.

Neither rideable? I know you’ve had trouble with spares for ages, but why not ‘put the call out’ for whatever is keeping you off the road - the brains trust on the forum will turn them up somewhere!

Some parts are just not available anymore . Like Domi Specific parts. What about the Original Sport front fender with the RWU forks ? How would I replace my front fender if it cracks ? It would be great if Norton would still make those parts available.

Rich said he'll be in touch with people who enquired previously, once he's 100% happy with the tanks.

I've got the guys from Tab ii Classics on their way over to me today, for me to meet their new welder and also discuss 961 tanks.
As I wont get chance to touch my Swiss bike probably until winter, I'm lending them that as a rolling frame to help them fine tune the fitment etc of their tank. Also got a couple of Marks last tanks to go back, which were sent to me last year just before the TT for test fitting.
I'll update this when I know more 🙂View attachment 107487
Stu , WOW , You have got this thing looking better than new ! Any hope for us that need a RWU fork front fender ?

I’m hearing ya Tony - but that looks very unlikely given what has been said previously by Norton about Donington spares. We’ve been around this buoy before. They are not going to continue to produce spares that are not in their spec for the 961. Rightly or wrongly depending on your view.

It’s gotta be super frustrating for those off the road for spares but we don’t seem to have a lot of members that fall into that category; If there are they do not seem to be posting here. We all know the sources to tap for prospective spares, information and knowledge, manufacture or modification.

I know just how frustrated Voodoo is with the spares situation - we all do. But what spares are required to put a 961 back on the road that are not available (Dommie specific aside). If some problem exists with getting spares directly to individuals in the US (?) then why not try a third party purchase - friend, other forum member, UK contact etc.

I just know how I would feel if my CR were off road for a prolonged period - it will be at some stage no doubt. I’ve also got multiple other bikes to ride so wouldn’t get too ‘wrapped around the ankles’ about it, but it would suck to say the least.

I guess trawling also may work, if yer lucky! These just popped up from CG I think.

Hey Tony,

Were you happy with your eventual choice of Monza Cap location? I was decidedly undecided!

The high point when on the side stand of course. Central being another option.

Thanks.

Steve

If I was having one made for myself again, I'd probably have the cap a little further over, like Nortons. For one, yes chance of hurting my bollocks should I go over the tank (as if I'm going to use it)....and for two it would have meant I could have fitting a tank strap too.

Good point about the nuts:oops:!! Also about the strap; any idea where a suitable strap could be found or would you just have one made? Steel or leather?

I was going to have one made, but the position of my cap would just make it awkward.

Bugger all over here mate. Wasn't that a straight over from the Kenny Dreer bikes...maybe be able to find the original manufacturer over your side of the pond?

Would there be a way to adapt the USD front fender , which are available in CF for Triumph 675 ?

Nah, got Bob Hope with that one. If looking to adapt something, find other bikes running those Ohlins forks.
