It has been said that fuel was not the true range limiting factor of the later model P-47s with the P&W R2800. It was oil consumption. They leak in all directions?

And was told it wasn't feasible. To me the logical solution is to place a place non-return check valve on the high pressure side of the oil pump.
Not sure this is a possibility on Commando without engineering the casings. Unsure if oil sitting at high side gear of pump can make its way past to low side (return oil) gear then on down to sump. There was a recent thread where someone was struggling to solve very rapid wet sumping, looking at pump sealing to casings etc. Turned out oil was getting past pump in an unexpected fashion I think?
All the AMR requires is the Timing cover and the oil pump to do the modification There is no modification necessary to the "cases" other than screwing in a grub screw for the PRV modification. All three modifications, timing cover, oil pump and PRV costs $100======================
I didn't state it wasn't feasible to have a high side check valve, but that the casing would need engineering/work to achieve that...which is what AMR's mod does.
Don't trust what?i still dont trust 'em
OK, timing cover is mod'ed not the cases...still needs a fair bit of machining skill & effort to do, which was my point. All the AMR requires is the Timing cover and the oil pump to do the modification There is no modification necessary to the "cases" other than screwing in a grub screw for the PRV modification. No, you simply buy a MKIII cover kit from Andover Norton (Part 06.6161) - it comes with everything needed to install on any Commando. It is on the high-pressure side and pretty much stops the normal cause of wet sumping.OK, timing cover is mod'ed not the cases...still needs a fair bit of machining skill & effort to do, which was my point.
Not that challenging, a couple 012 x-rings, a BSA check valve spring, a 3/16 ball bearing and an hour or so on the mill... prestoOK, timing cover is mod'ed not the cases...still needs a fair bit of machining skill & effort to do, which was my point.
$100 plus shipping and it's all done for you.OK, timing cover is mod'ed not the cases...still needs a fair bit of machining skill & effort to do, which was my point.
$280 plus shipping? How is that a better solution? No, you simply buy a MKIII cover kit from Andover Norton (Part 06.6161) - it comes with everything needed to install on any Commando. It is on the high-pressure side and pretty much stops the normal cause of wet sumping.
Still not perfect but to be perfect you need to go back in time and talk sense to a stupid engineer - while you're at is make a stop a BSA and talk to their stupid engineer as well.![]()
I said nothing about better or worse and I did not reply to one of your posts.!$100 plus shipping and it's all done for you.

Well since you replied to a rely to my post you kind of did.I said nothing about better or worse and I did not reply to one of your posts.!
A better solution is the MK3 timing cover$100 plus shipping and it's all done for you.

The MK3 valve is a shaft not a ball and prone to hanging up on the sides of the gallery so no seal when that happens, plus you still need to do the oil pump O or X rings mod. So the AMR mods are both cheaper and more likely to work than a MK3 cover.A better solution is the MK3 timing cover
A cheaper solution is the AMR modification
I was thinking more of the convenience of the cam chain inspection hole on the mk 3 cover that's why I fitted one on my 750The MK3 valve is a shaft not a ball and prone to hanging up on the sides of the gallery so no seal when that happens, plus you still need to do the oil pump O or X rings mod. Well my Bridgeport is 30ft from my Norton's, my labour is free and I have only myself to blame if I destroy a timing cover or pump. As for the timing chain inspection port, fit a rubber lined tensioner and a Merc simplex timing chain from the Chainman and after the rubber has bedded in there is little need for retensioning.I was thinking more of the convenience of the cam chain inspection hole on the mk 3 cover that's why I fitted one on my 750
Plus less down time just fitting a new timing cover
Rather than sending your cover away to be modified then waiting for it to return
Mayybe it'd be best to AMR mod a MK3 cover![]()
So… do you offer this service in the U.K.?Well my Bridgeport is 30ft from my Norton's, my labour is free and I have only myself to blame if I destroy a timing cover or pump. +1 from OzSo… do you offer this service in the U.K.?
Serious question… I’d send you my cover tomorrow…
Ha ha now you've done it kommando!+1 from Oz
