What size socket is required for the fork top nut?

The damper rod bolt seems to require a thin walled box spanner, again what size please.

Many thanks

Charles

I use 15/16" 3/4" drive socket with about 1/16" bench grinder off outer rim about 3/4" wide for the fork top bolts, as threads on outside not inside like a nut, unless counting the damper rod threaded hole, so its both a nut and a bolt, not just a hollow bolt like the exhaust ring 'nuts'.

for the damper nut you can push a normal 9/16" open wrench onto the nut as the spring will move to give clearance. Hold this nut while turning the fork cap off the threaded damper rod once the fork cap is removed from the fork tube.

1-5/16" A/F (1 inch and five sixteenths, not 15/16")

Do you mean the damper tube bolt (1/2" A/F hex) ? Or damper rod nut?

Thanks LAB,

I mean the damper tube bolt, that you get to from the bottom of the fork stantion, not much space there. I'm from the UK, but have been running metric bikes for so long that this strange mixture of sizes used on Nortons is getting me confused.

Next query, what size for the Big sump bolt on a 71?

Thanks

Charles

oh buggers I'm sorry I looked twice to be sure I saw 15 and not 1 5/16', ugh. Can measure your self but like me its easier or more fun to ask here. A regular wrench can shove in to the rod nut but after a few times I ground it thinner to ease the task. If ya extend the rod thread down further can diddle pre load sag some. Main buggaboo's I've run into is damper caps blacksmithed welded by the top out stops before my time on it and the damper tube just spinning with its bottom anchor bolt. Putting spring pressure back on worked some times others had to get some thing to grab or wedge damper tube other wise air impact which I didn't have on hand.
