sump plug size

Just to clarify, never top up the oil tank if bike has been sitting a while unless you know the sump is not "wet sumped", otherwise the excess in sump will be pumped back to tank at start up and then overfill the tank and pouring out the breather pipe etc. Only add oil to tank after a ride or running 5-10 minutes, or after draining the sump.

My 850 will lose near all oil from tank to sump after 10-14 days standing...others report more thike a few months. I made up an oil tap with ignition cutout swtich and fit it in the tank to engine feed line. Now all oil stays in tank btwn rides until I open the tap.

"Since the bike has been sitting for 30 years"

Gee whiz AI Dave, you sure do repeat that phrase a lot. How did it run when you parked it?
I inherited the bike from my father-in-law. When first saw the bike 25 years ago, it was sitting in a basement. No idea how long before that it was started. So I've never seen the bike run
