5 Speed Quaife Race Gearbox Seal sizes Needed

Hi all,

I'm restoring a 1970 Race bike that has a Commando engine and a 5 speed race Quaife gearbox. The gearbox is in good condition but has come without seals or gaskets. Does anyone have drawings or sizes of seals required. Is their anyone selling spares for these. We can probably make the gaskets if we can't find anyone selling them.

Standard seals & gaskets I've got nothing different in mine! Contact Andover Norton as the brought up all of Mick Hemmings Quaife items.

Hello, did you find any info on the seals? I'm looking for the seal that goes in the sleeve gear end. Thanks.

Hi Glyn,
I have one in the workshop. I'll check the size tomorrow, but I know I got it from WYCH bearings, and it needs to be an NBR type

The important bit is the VG1 (no garter) and the ones that came with my new cluster also had the "corrugated" outer

ANIL did not buy or were even offered the Quaife items or business to carry on the Quaife gearboxes.

Sorry, no. We did buy a lot of Hemmings production racer parts and most of the standard stock but the Quaiffe stock was bought by Works Racing Motorcycles/Patrick Walker. MadNorton is usually correct but was probably not involved at the time. I was given the opportunity to acquire the Quaiffe stock and goodwill for ANIL but did not see it as financially viable for us, the more so as there were innumerable changes in those gearboxes in the decades they were made and unless, like the late Mick Hemmings, one was involved over the decades and knew it all it was not something for us to tackle.
