Yeah, hobot, don't freak me out with those wild trhead titles, man!

Re: Show me your hard bags please

OH crap, my dyslexic brain was told to spell Hard Bags, but its a mind of its own, ugh. New more compact key board still being learned by fingers on 'speed' typing too.

Here's first attempt to get some practical cargo capacity installed. Also added under head light black leather tool pouch, not yet installed in this shot.

Peels 'hard' side bags were destroyed when her fractured axle locked up just as I let off power running up truck ramp to land upside down from almost 5 ft up.
So of course got pissed and gave it stronger run back up with exactly same results that took out the other hard bag to match. Remarkably not much else marred.
Only on drive home did reason why flash into mind, no way to predict it ahead of time after 30+ miles stop go traffic to get to long haul truck rental in '04.

hobot has > NEVER EVER HIT THE GROUND WHEN I AIMED AT IT! <

I've not mentioned that on some of Peels sports bikes spanking early adventures I could not use near full power because of prior sprocket injury - so chain would come off if I tried to accelerate much - such as extra power to climb a steep.
That is why I could not catch back up with Triumph Triple after gas slosh threw us across lanes while front air borne in phase 3 turn. 1st of 4'x's Peel got behind.
Yes rear link is So Good Peel can eat the best for lunch with one piston tied behind. I never even crashed on corner cripple sports bikes, they are how I learned there is another handling phase beyond leaned counter steering. But so unstable unpredictable its not fun to ride em that way. Got me banned from returning to Codes Corner School, hehe. Told our riding "philosophy' differs, I'll say, as everyone else is working from opinion of how bikes handle, Not ME, NO SIR!

So part of Peel deal is to rub in her obsolete dominance over every thing else, doing it while appearing to be a foot forward big twin bagger, on superficial looks. Next time out will have an extra piston worth of power to finish em off in their only claim to fame - straight upright sprinting. Can pull out drinks and table seats and snacks when we stop to discuss where modern technology gone so wrong.

Peel in -against-the-grain-engine set up could push this big screen over 125 mph no sweat.

Yes sir - Total Still Air behind it - so able to light cigs no matter the speed as long as moving, when stopped cold breezes chill me and blow out lighter. So good no need but a hooded sweat shirt under leathers to stay comfy in freezing rain with astounded people double taking I'd be out in it. Hand shields really helped too.
It acted as steering damper and tamed semi truck wash as well, wonderful comfort item I could look over 2" w/o wind in the eyes, only big bugs could zing through to feel. JCWhitney National Cycle brand. Knocked about 10 mph off top end is all.
I hardly ever cruised over 120 so was no hinder unless trying to over take hot rods.

On the hunt for Art Deco light wt hard bags with a case of beer capacity, each.
Should not add 10 lb total I hope, so still under stock mass fully equipped.

It'd be really easy to just weld up some lightweight aluminum sheet metal into a box, but u'd have to find a way to mount

Funny, when I saw the title, I thought it might be a dirty post. Boy, was I disappointed.

Am I the only one when you heard "hard" and "babs" thought of this?

I was firmly planted in the lawn with my ladder on top of me.

I have a pretty decent dual saddle (diamond stitched) like the ones you see in Mark & hobot's pix, if anyone wants to make a reasonable offer / trade...

Here my Yamaha cases, with slightly modified light carrier frame that attaches to the footrest. Helmet fits in.
Have some inner bags with it, quite handy.
Wish I had done this 30 years ago, I used old bicycle bags stitched together then.
Rear loop is strengthened on each side by a strip chain-welded underneath, some 40 cm from the shock mount extending to the rear.
So no need for other structural braces like from footrests.
Fitted a rear carrier to all this as well.
Holds ok two-up.

Picture taken in 2007, on the way back from IOM, so the number 36 probably up a bit by now...
Great roads to ride over there in Yorkshire.

Wow Mark what a big cruise police like bike Command you've assembled, crash bars included on front and hard bags. I like it a lot as most practical set up to match the big heavy twin sound of our light Commandos. I'd been wondering if I'd like big bags with bumper railings and see I sure do. Most may look askance at the King/Queen bucket seats but it don't weight much more that stock seat but sure is soft compared to the standard brick or flashy Corbin seats.

Slim, I don't care for the boxy BMW klunky styled bags but Sure Do like the way it makes your Cdo look like its all powerful big engine the rest is hung on to highlight!

Peel hard bags must be part of her crash tolerant system. If I'd had a Cdo to ride yesterday I'd have another tale of deer killing take down, if I survived of course.
I veered car so hard/fast it took a bit to recover by into my lane w/o spinning out. Its the type of full lock fork flick that throws rear out into a high side reaction that I need tank foam to prevent flying extra far by the fuel slam while air borne. Even then may not have been able to recover on Peel if she'd gone off pavement into the wooded ditch.

I want study bag tops and supports also to regularly carry 50# feed sacks across back of saddle. But also want em easy on/off for off road and looking racy to public.

Yeah Hobot,
It's pretty practical and not as big as it looks. I always see commandos done up as hotrods / roadsters, it's not often I see them dressed up as baggers.

Thanks for the views Mark- actually appeals to me a lot, as much as it may resemble lumbering baggers hehe its still a torquey narrow tire canyon carver ya don't feel tractor or buzz saw annoying vibes from. Impressive proportions, both you and the bike, alas only my bikes can convey an image of robust muscle power.
Hehe, one double taker I hope for Peel to induce someday is appearing at gathering all covered up running softly, then uncover to naked as a hill climber with qt gas tank and nose dropped 2-3".

Also nice to be able to lock up items when out and about away from bike.

Reggie, sure thing!
It's them stretches of hills and skies, something special. Great for walking too (not that the Norton broke down...)
Guess you recognise this? (open in wide screen)

I have got to get my '69 going and get some pictures around here in the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Looks a lot like Yorkshire, but with real snow in the winter. Stone walls, long views, windy dangerous roads, and short ancient Appalachian mountains. Won't be long now.
