Posting this again. Photo is from 1973 and my first combat. Absolutely original 201123. Just rode it from Riverside to San Jose, California on the very new Interstate 5.

Is this a Combat?

210699 would be within the Combat series (1972)

Looks like original paint?

I somehow doubt the tank is, as it looks too fresh and the gold too bright (compared to the rest of the machine) the 'Norton' logo also looks more like the later 850 064880 style which now seems to be supplied in place of the original 06-2021 (gold with black border) Norton logo.

I owned 210303 (750 Interstate) in 1977, could that have been a Combat? It went very well when I got it first. Subsequent 'incidents' seemed to make it slower but significantly, during one rebuild the cam needed replacing and the local guy I dealt with (super bike mechanic and Commando prod. racer) sorted a cam for me but wanted the old one back, I always suspected it may have been Combat spec. He had lots of good Commando stuff. And stories.
Cheers, Martin

Yes, probably, Combats ended at 211110.

Ah, thanks, that would explain why it behaved like it did. Wheelies in first just on the power and seeing off every Jap sport bike at the time. Just as well I have a non-Combat 750 now........
Cheers, Martin

Whoever did the tank did a good job recreating it as stock, with even a crooked "reserve " sticker!

That sticker looks 'old' so could have also been painted around.
