Has anyone got a clear picture of where the Norton decals fit to the petrol tank, Mk1 Roadster? Maybe this is merely a matter of taste, or were there any drawings from the factory showing placement?

I'll not be upset if the answer is just stick em on where they look right, but I'm not particularly artistic.

These are placed from measurements I made when I sanded the black off the tank and panels and measured the old marks which I could see. If you want measurements I can get them.

What colors are you using? I remember my original tank decal had a wider gold outline than the one in the pic. Steadfast has vinyl decals that have the thicker outline in the black/gold. I like them better than the original rub on thin ones.

Cool, great picture, and measurements would be helpful too. I've sprayed the tank gloss black, no pinstriping. I'll be using the solid Silver Norton Decal.

If you are going out of your way to set the decal then why not get the correct color for the black tank, which should be gold.
Me thinks.

The bottom of the 'orton' part is 4" above the bottom edge of the tank and parallel to it as measured with the curve. The rear of the loop is 1" in front of the edge of the indent. It would be the large N on the other side. This is a fiberglass tank, I think the later metal Roadster tanks were a bit different, but in any case the decal appears centered on the outer most part of the tank.

This is for an early bike, the 850's appear to have the decal set up higher like the L.A.B. link.

Many thanks for all the advice, pics, links and measurements!

I know silver is not the standard decal colour for the black tank, but I think it will look appropriate on my bike.

My bike is a bit of a mongrel, so I'm not aiming for a factory repro. I'll try it and if it doesn't look good, I'll change it :P

I'll post some pics of the finished tank in my "parts paradise indian tank" thread when it's done.
