Stripped a few P11 fuel tanks for my '68 P11A and '69 Ranger 750. As I'm sure you all know, the Ranger 750 has a 'Norton' decal on the tank rather than the round badge found on the hi-pipe P11, N15, and P11A. I found that the tank that my Ranger 750 came with had the 'bulge' for the badge and the screw holes filled with body filler, as did a couple of swap meet tanks that had 'Norton' decals. My Ranger 750 is pretty original with correct, undamaged fenders, the correct side cover, and original handlebars, but headlight ears, handlebar switchgear, and longer fork tubes are non-standard, so it is certainly possible the tank has been changed.
Can anyone confirm that the original Ranger 750 tank did not have the bulges where the earlier tank badges fit or screw holes for these badges? Were they filled at the factory? With the influx of Indian made tanks, I'm sure some of those are made without badge mounts, but I'm curious about what others have found under known original Ranger 750 tanks.
