I am currently undertaking some research on the correct decal colour for my 1971 signal orange roadster and could not find a definitive answer.

The fibreglass tank and side covers that came with the bike both have all black decals applied.

However, the 1971 brochure “The Wild Bunch” cover clearly shows a two tone black and gold tank decal. Because of the resolution and lighting, it is difficult to tell if the side coved are the same.

I also understand that sometimes what is shown in the promotional material does always trickle down to the factory floor.

Does anyone know what the correct decal combination would be?

Thanks.

I'll be looking for LAB's reply, but I'd put my money on black.

I can only quote from the parts manual which may or may not be completely accurate that lists:

Side Covers "All models"
062019...Decal 750 Commando (Gold/Black edging) not Black/Gold edging?
062020...Decal 750 Commando (All Black)

Tank (all types including Interpol)
"062021...Decal "Norton" Gold/Black edge
062022...Decal "Norton" All Black
"

Thank you RoadScholar and LAB.

It appears as though Andover has both the all black and gold with black trim available for 71’

I will likely just stick with all black.

Good choice. I have not seen any Signal Orange roadster with other than black decals.

My uncle had a signal orange 750 roadster when I was a kid. I fantasized about it all the time and would sit on it and he would give me he'll if he caught me. Black only decals.

I think the black decals are correct for the straight Red, Orange and Yellow bikes, and the black/gold for the metalflake colours

Brochure bikes were photoed 6 months before the MK/model year were in production so anomalies are more common than you think.
