I would agree that a line full of air may affect the reading -not that it would affect the pressure that was the gauge was reading.
If you look at the inlet fitting on most gauges you will see a tiny hole that is meant to dampen the gauge.
If the medium that is passing through that restriction is air -then there will be less dampening than if it was oil that was passing through the restriction.
So yes, fluttering of the gauge may be affected by a line full of air. Jim
