Make sure you don't mix those bolts up with any others. I have a crank here that has a circle pattern carved into the crank cheek from someone using too long a bolt to fasten the chaincase. There was a rude impact mark at the leading edge of the cheek and then you could see where it rubbed along the side. I don't think the guy ever realized it. The bolt used was about 1/8th" too long (really 1/4" too long but about 1/8th. made contact) so it took up the end float and bent enough to turn over and start and it was run like that for who knows how long.
