I don't know if anyone knows the guy, Owen Greenfield, who used to post here. He always wrote "ta" after his posts which I assume was short for ta ta (goodbye) I think some people here disagreed with him on some things and he erased all his posts....

Anyway, he had this fuel line system that he sold which were these "push connectors" which assembled and disassembled really quickly with a spring loaded O ring type fitting. They were pretty cool. I saw him demo the system at the elma norton rally.

He also sold a modified amal carb float bowl drain bolt which threaded onto the jet holder to hold the bowl in place securely and replaced the need for the screws on the side of the bowl which bolt the float bowl to the underside of the carb. I was looking in my parts bin and thinking of making the same modification. I know he had a youtube channel called "Needing Power?" which seems to be gone now.

Does anyone have his drain bolt/bowl fastener system on their amals?

I wonder if he still sells them. Does anyone here know this guy?

thanks in advance

those are called dry-break fittings.
Used on many modern bikes

Thanks for the info guys...

Concours, I wasn't all that much interested in the fittings. I looked at the link you posted and his were different, and way nicer, not that it matters because I'm not looking for that product anyhow.

I do think fastening the float bowl from drain hole bolt pressure is better than by the ears on the float bowl, having bent my share of float bowl ears...

I understand.

I figured I'd offer that to those interested.

As for the multi-use drain plug/bowl retainer, I have nothing. Other than, if it was a big improvement, it would be available. JMWO

Cheers, and good luck with the search.

You know how it is.... There are always people who say, "There's nothing wrong with the original design." and that's cool. This was a nice modification. I have extra amals, so I was looking to steal his design or more simply buy a pair of his modified drain bowl nut hardware kits and save myself the trouble of going through the design and fabricate process. (again....) I spent more money on my damper modification project than it would have cost to just buy the Cosentino dampers which mine are similar to...

In the case of his float bowl fastening modification, I don't even know what he did to make it work, so I don't have a design to copy....

The guy came all the way from Aussie to our Norton gathering in Elma Washington and gave a tech session on his modified parts. I don't think too many were interested, and at the time neither was I but I did like the drain bolt modification. I have some time and a lathe, and some extra amal carbs so I was thinking about doing the mod.... or just buying the parts

Not retired yet, so full tilt bozo time management.

Lots of time to make trinkets not in my schedule yet

Acadian ( This forum ) , made up some special screw bolts for his brit bikes to use central pressure via central drain plug / jet assembly retention , instead of the feeble bowl side tabs . He still runs the bowl side tab posidrive screws for visuals and a final retention .

Any time . I'm about to give him a new gearbox for his new racebike build . In exchange for his labour to remove my old engine and gearbox for a newly prepared motor ( J.S. rods , pistons ) and CNW hydraulic clutch ( gearbox build ) exchange and drop into place , once the driving season is over in Nov. Off north tomorrow , on new Avon Roadriders MK 11 , to Manitoulin Isl. to fish and hang with first nations .

Wowza! lightening the pistons has to be right up there with some of the smartest things you can do to a parallel twin. I always wanted to ride a bike with lightened pistons to see how noticeable the difference is... I'm jealous. That's not in the budget for me these days...

Del'Orto carbs also use the center drain plug system very successfully, but they use an O-ring to seal, and have a lip to locate and orientate the drain bowl. Amals lack both, so it's a bit more difficult to do successfully. I would also be interested in seeing a solution, but mostly out of curiosity rather than a need to use it.

I remember Owen from the INOALIST. Thought he was a great innovator for all things Commando and really enjoyed his articles.
Is it these ?

Yes, that's the idea. I'm not sure why he puts a fuel line on the bottom drain bolt because then how would the float shut off the flow of fuel if it doesn't flow past the float needle. Anyway, Acadian is hooking me up so I'll get to analyze the whole thing and come up with my own version... Thank you everyone.... 👍

fuel line is on original inlet banjo fitting.
The white 90 ell appears to be a remote bowl drain. Used on Polaris sleds for years to combat water/impurity from being sucked into main. Or, he was using it for float height checking.

That's the only way it would make sense to me... good to have a gut check... thanks

I recall these mods being offered on his ebay store. Also interested in his carb needle holder which permitted needle clip position changes without needing to remove throttle slider...just the bowl.was "under development" last i saw it.
