Oil pressure gauge, Yay or Nay?

How many times have you kicked yourself in the ass for that costly mistake? I had a valve in-line for a very short time. Until I asked myself if I trusted my memory that well. Tried the spring loaded valve. Found 0 psi at idle with hot oil. Finally went with the AMR mod. No more wet sumping, no more worries about a memory fart.
Yep, only plus side was I got to unload a heap of hard earned for some of JS go fast stuff. And I sent my oil pump and cover to AMR for their treatment also. Live n learn.

That’s the great thing about these old bikes. A disaster is just an excuse to upgrade!

I try to make it a strict shed policy to NEVER put an engine back together the same as it was. Life’s too short to waste upgrade / experimentation opportunities when they kindly present themselves.

We need to change the use of language and stop using the phrase ‘blow up’ and replace it with ‘upgrade opportunity’ !

Don’t wanna hijack the thread, but briefly, what upgrade suite did you go for?

Exactly my thoughts.
Jims lightweight pistons and pins, carrillo rods, radius cam and lifter kit, beehive springs, one of Kens FA heads, Matts reed breather mod, Jims CR carb set up, yarda yarda yarda. Ass out of my pants now, but hey, who cares, she deserves it.
Oh, HUNT MAG.
And dont tell my OL.;)

Oh that sounds sexy!

But you omit crucial details:

Is it 750 or 850?
(I have a JS / Comnoz equipped 850 currently, motor will be replaced by a similarly equipped 920 soon. But lately I’ve been thinking a 750, with super light pistons would be cool).

Which stage cam?

What size carbs?

Have you got a build thread going somewhere on here with details and pictures?

If not... why not...?

750
0 Cam, a little better than stock
33's.
Too lazy, LOL, got a couple of bikes on the go so been slow re-build.

My oil pressure gauge uncovered a failed conical seal between the oil pump and timing cover. The pressure abruptly went from normal to very little. Depending on the setting a low oil pressure warning system may or may not have brought it to my attention, except maybe at idle. I'm a firm believer.

Are we documenting that there is a factory Combat motor with the breather off the end of the cam? What are the numbers off the motor?

Got any photos?

No, it seems we are documenting a Combat that’s had the engine, or at least the bottom end, swapped.

Sounds good.

Comeon, give us a build thread to follow and stop being selfish !!

Are we sure it has a Combat head? Maybe with luck it turns out to be a '71!
