I would not use a Fram filter on anything.

But my distaste of Fram filters comes from sliding down the ractrack when the bike in front of me had a Fram filter failure.

For a few years at that time [mid 80's] Fram filters were not allowed on roadrace bikes as they had a lot of failures.

Is there any consensus on a couple of brands of oil filters that are good/better to use on our Commandos and other bikes ....thanks

Baldwin is what I use on everything.

FWIW, Fram's racing filters are claimed to have a max operating pressure of 200 PSI and a minimum burst pressure of 300PSI. Pretty impressive!

Can someone tell me if these will spin directly on the Norton or is an adapter needed? Thanks

I always thought a nice feature of K&N filters was they had nut welded on the end.

I use them on my car, not on my bike. A few years ago, I ditched the spin on type for a magnafine. Soon, will run their aluminum canister version with AN fittings.

German made Mann W 712/11 filter, £5.17 each incl. delivery, ebay UK. (originally a Peugeot fitment)

Has integral indentations around the can that fits their special tool to remove the filter easily, the top portion of this tool needs grinding down to clear the swingarm.
K&N nut feature never worked for me, rounded off on replacement, even with the filter installed hand tight at oil changes.

I've got a K&N. Too soon to say yea or nay, but it does go into what room is available.
For some reason filters for Nortons, in my area at least, are like searching for frog fur. I had to order this one because no one has them listed in their books.

Try a Ducati dealer. That same KN-153 fits a number of Ducati's.

My favorite reply at the local motorcycle parts store. "A Norton? Is that made by Honda?"

Interesting video, thanks for posting. I'll never buy a Fram filter having seen how shoddily they're made. I've been using Mahle filters but maybe I'll look for WIX

I was in the oil business for many years and at one time we considered the filter business. I visited a couple of private label maker of filters of all kinds. Gould makes many of the oil and air filters on the market today. They will make you anything you want. Cheap filter media and not much of it with cardboard end caps, to quality filter media and more of it with properly glued metal end caps, heavier can with better screw threads and so on. It all depends on the price point you're after. Yes, some are better than others. Like BEll used to say, if you have a $10 head???
