Norton 961 Alloy Tank

Just squeezed another 1.5 litres in, taking it to 17.5 litre from empty. Personally, I'm uncomfortable at having a tank that full. I'd say 17ltr to fill. Has anyone actually measured the Norton tanks properly, instead of just going on the sales brochures?
There is also a difference between how much you can put in and how much the pump can get to before running out. If it doesn't splash out on the tank and if I am on a trip , I will fill it up. I am still hoping for 19 liters in my tank , I asked TAB to maximize my volume if possible ! :)

3.5 USG usable (barely) . You better be pulling into a gas station right then ! But Norton claimed 17.5 Liters 4.5 USG.
You think or know the plastic tank is 3.5 usg? To me it doesn’t look hardly any bigger than the aluminum tank. I never fill my tank to the brim, about 2” or slightly less from the top for me

Norton say the tank in 17.5 liters , it may hold 17.5 liters when fully empty. But you will never be able to access anywhere near that much before starving the pump when riding. About 3.5 gallons is all I am willing to use before getting gas. (This is the point) . When I ran out of gas the first time with the 961 , I could see gas at the very bottom of the tank . So , the Norton Aluminum tank holds approximately 2 liters more gas than the plastic tank , based on others observations like (mxmartin) . I do not know how much gas is accessible on a Aluminum Tank , hopefully at least 2 liters more.

But you still can’t pass a gas station with either tank. Even if you had an aluminum tank why risk running out ?
With the aluminum tank you can’t see anything close to the bottom. With the cap open, the battery box area prevents you from seeing the bottom, and from the top of the battery box area to the top of the tank is about 1-1/2”

I usually fill up to that battery box area. So basically 1-1/2” from the top

Maintenance is as hard as you make it, and to what standard you want the tank to stay in. If you're trying to keep it completely scratch free, looking fresh off the polishing wheel, then it can be a bitch. Some all over wear and tear looks nice on some applications.
I thought I had my mind set on the paint finish I was going for....but now Im thinking of full manx silver. I'll probably change my mind again by this afternoon.
I keep my bikes clean but also don't mind a bit of wear and tear - patina they call it. I was talkin with Blightybrit yesterday 'bout blued & coloured zoorst headers - I luv 'em, some hate 'em.
Then Blightybrit pointed out the patina that was developing on my nice new TAB tank .. see the pic attached. (caused by my Denim Cut buttons)
Is no big deal but I'll be lookin for some kinda protector for it.
And I've found that what you say is true, alloy tanks are a bitch to keep shiny and is likely best not to bother.
Norton 961 Alloy Tank
Keep 'em 'just-off' shiny coz everyone wants to touch these things and there goes all yer hard work!

My goodness, imagine what the denim buttons would have done to a painted tank!
Just get a clear tank protector.
It can be removed to do a full re-buff of the tank when needed.
When will a re-buff be required?
When motorists no longer need to protect their eyes from the tank glare as your 961 blasts by.:p

Imagine all the beer and metal you'd need to fix that!
I like beer, and motorcycles, and maybe three people - possibly!

I challenge the forum to grab your favourite beer, sit comfortably looking at your Norton and listen to Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath - loud! Go on, I dare you!

Sabbath without Ozzy!! Some might consider that heresy, a bit like riding a Norton built after '76 perhaps?
But no, excellent catalogue choice IMHO :)

Does anybody else think that this frame extension kit and exhaust setup is smokin‘ hot!? Or is it just me? Also achieves getting rid of the rear foot peg hangers and revealing more of those sexy carbon (or wire) wheels.

I’m gonna try and find out a price, but don’t tell the wife!

@Stephen_Spencer based on the YEN they want for that tank, it will be interesting.....

Nope.

To my eye those “look alike” megaphones are just too small.

I like the passenger peg eliminator hangers, and the pipes look tucked in and slightly higher set for better corning clearance.
But for the Commando, I would prefer a 2-into-1 exhaust.
Also, not a fan of the unpolished weld look.
That look is ok for the Dominator, but I think not for the Commando.

All good points and in the eye of the beholder of course. I think the system has been very well thought out. Maybe not as aesthetically pleasing for higher bar variants but for the more aggressive stance of the Cafe Racer perhaps?

I like the way the exhaust terminates at the visual junction of the rear shock and chain guard and that the silencer is routed parallel to the rear frame tube - can end arching slightly like the tail unit. These shapes are pleasing to the eye. Sounds pretty sweet too.

Not going to run out and buy them because they are likely very expensive, but I really like to see any firm spending money to produce aftermarket parts for the 961.

@Stephen_Spencer you know a Delta would be cheaper :D
