Been running mine for maybe 2500 miles. It seems to get oil out of the cases at startup least as quickly as the scavenge pump does. Easy to fit. No engine oil leaks, although I wasn't suffering any before. I did not plug the holes in the timing case and have not drilled a drain. I may, someday.

What year is that one WW? Timed breather or not?

I really wanted to fit one, but the frame brace on my early bike is so close to the sump I had to send it back. Bummer.

Dave

Brent, have been running mine now for a year or more , excellent product, well worth the effort, putting one in Bike # 2 project as well.
Havent had a need to have the timing cover off on my road bike, so no blocked holes, although on Bike # 2 I have done this mod by taping a thread and using JB weld on some UNC grub screws shortened to fit
Only issue I had on the first one Jim sent me was the crankcase baffle partially blocking the hole, all of which is covered in the thread with pics, I sent that onto a customer with a different crankcase hole style in Australia and Jim sent me the replacement(s) later versions, as both bikes have the same baffle issue.
Highly recommended
Regards Mike

It's a 1974 850. Went right in.

Thanks Jim.
I flew back in from work this morning and there were a stack of Norton packages to open.
First to be opened was the reed valve crank case evaluator, very nice bit of kit indeed.

Jim,
is there a reason why the screws protrude so far through the body?
It looks like they could be pretty tough to keep clean.

It is a smart, useful piece, I hope that you sell a bunch of them!

The screws only went that far on the trial one in the picture. Then I sourced screws the right length. Jim

Hm, that's not what we want to hear from a primere Norton inventor. I was half teasing as just this year I finally rationalized to my full satisfaction why I was so smart to be a lazy avoid-er wet sump drainer. Truely in the tiny Combat drain plug case its rather more risky frequently nipping and un nipping plug strong enough to stay tight it don't sooner round its corners off or eat its threads up.

Hobot- Jim will get the tool less drain figured out right after he gets those piezo electric spark plugs perfected :D

I've not solved my carb boot leak issues so rings are blowing by again and Trixie leaves clouds of smoke on initial cold start up, so can start inside, though clears in a min after sump cleared, but I'm sorely tempted to put in an exht. extractor to see if it can suck oil back in head and base seam leaks more than the blow by it. As I said I no longer consider wet sump a bad thing but a cam liter protector as what's a blow crank seal compared to scored and worn cam interface. Jim's got his hands full already so some one else may have to be the first with a microwave or laser ignition.

back to the original deal....the Jim Comstock/CMW rear of cases breather...

I need a breather for my build, I have Maney cases with two machined locations for breathers, one on the timing area and one as per the '72 200K series cases.

I am assuming that the CNW item is a straight bolt on fit here. Anyone done that? Jim surely?

As for the Mikes XS component, which might work say 80% as well as far as I can deduce from other comments. I went to the XS site, sure the price is $18, so I put in for 2, and then discovered the shipping at $42 to the UK.....not pointing fingers, that is teh way it works.....but it makes it a much less attractive purchase, especially when I getto pay import taxes on the cost including the shipping....and I will still need some form of union or plate to fix on the cases to feed it.....

Pay more, yes.....less hassle? I hope so.

I think they have an EU site? Did you see one?

Steve,
The breather that bolts to the rear of the case with the adapter for the 72 Combat case will bolt to the rear of the Maney case. You will need to use a thick gasket to space the adapter out a bit so it doesn't hit the area around the machined pad.
Alternately the rear of the Maney case can be machined so the reed and cover bolts directly to the case. I can send the parts if you want. PM me. Jim

I don't think anyone has checked the effectiveness of Mike's XS valves. I have an intake rocker cover with a hose barb in it. If anyone with a Mike's valve wants to run a test I'd be happy to send them the cover. Vacuum gauges go for $20.

I have a carb sync vacuum gauge.

What breather do you have on yours?

Dave, I have one of Jim's sump breathers.
