Dave, I got mine from a 650SS that was being canibalised for a cafe racer project. The only difference is that it has two holes for the original vertical front number plate, a couple of rubber grommets does the trick here. Best of all it was free!
If we get any more guys called dave with an S-Type we will have to form our own section.

Yeah, when I was in the Army, I roomed with 3 guys in the Language School and they were all named Dave. It never ends. My name is so common, I get plenty of calls from the bottom feeder guys trying to collect bad debts. I had to get a new phone number once.

Interesting, I have a 1966 650SS and it has a valanced front guard, maybe DaveM has used a Mercury front guard wich i beleive is a blade type. With the help of Dave[dogt] i have tried to research the guard/stay sitution and i beleive the S stays are shorter than the R/ Fastback stays, I have purchased 4 early style front stays of which 3 turned out to be short and one longer [the same length as the later stay] 2 of the shorter stays i have used on my S type, the others i will use as patterns when i freshen my 69 fastback, the bridge is also shorter[excuse me for not posting measurements as i have mispladed my notebook]

Dave (DogT),

I'm guessing the reason most sway away from the side stand I have is due to not being able to have both the side stand and centre stand on at the same time, well so I found out today.

For interest, I also had to grind a good proportion of the centre stands rh bolts head down due to the proximity of the spring.

I removed a few mm of the inside of the side stand to allow both to be on the frame, the tolerances are still close.

Hmmm. I didn't have any issues between the prop stand and the centre stand. I did put the centre stand LH bolt through the other way than yours though, with the bolt head on the left side. I also put the RH bolt through from the LH side, but my spring just clears the head or if it rubs, it doesn't seem to matter. I did the same as you and put the prop stand bolt with the nut on the outside also. I think Dave M got a narrower headed bolt with his centre stand. Did that stand come with the bike or did you buy it? The foot bracket that sticks out on the left side (not the peg, the flat thing) hits my frame with the stand all the way up, so I glued a piece of hose on the frame to keep it from rattling and eating the powder coat.

Centre stand rubbing, mine has a mark where it has been doing this, and I'll be glueing a peice of rubber hose over that area, good suggestion.

Side stand came with the bike.

I think a better fix for the centre stand hitting the frame is to grind down that flat foot plate or build up the area where the stand hits the stop on one or the other piece. I was going to do that, but got lazy. I'm sure the rubber hose will wear through.

Does your side and center stand still interfere?

Josh where did you get your centre stand spring? When I bought mine in 2008 dealer reckoned they were not available and only had the later spring which I had to make up a clamp to make it work.

The side cover from grandpaul arrived tday, very happy with the buy.

Do all the RH covers have the little holder, I guess for a manual or tools ?.

Only the 750S and early Roadster models-which had the central oil tank and access to the battery from the right side.

Later models with the right side oil tank and L/H battery access had the tool compartment inside the L/H cover.

If it weren't for the decals (one placed correctly, one crooked), I would think those were a long-separated original pair!

Parts are all painted, tank/side covers is having stickers and clear coat done, awaiting wheels ( stainless rims and spokes ), parts order should leave Norvill late next week ( $5k ).

Correct commando barrels being sleeved and machined, head ( combat) ready to go.

Iscolatic conversion to MK111's.

Question: what are the standard valve seats made of ?, cast or stainless ?.

Getting close.......

Making certain the swing arm is absolutely full of oil, will be rigging up a permanent oil feed to the swing arm with a small resevoir.

Hi Josh,
Its starting to look good. What a great area you live in to ride a bike around.
Just watch out when going up the cook highway to Port Douglas that the police dont stop you for crossing a double white line if you stop at the popular lookout on the seaward side of the road.
I was there & the police being really awkward with the bikers.
Looking forward to seeing the end result.
Cheers Don

Looks like you have a weekend project there. Should be on the road by Wednesday?

Hope it all goes together fine.
