Well it's been about 4 years, I figure it's time for an update on the bike.
Shortly after picking it up, I had the frame inspected and it was quite twisted up. So I replaced the frame and with the bike completely apart, I boxed the bike up until I would have time to focus on it.
Last fall, I jumped back into building it. I wanted to start with a rolling chasis, so I figured rebuilding the front end would be the first task...
Once the forks were finished up, I installed them and noticed a large twist in the triple trees. An impulsive eBay purchase and a couple weeks later, I was back on track.
I started throwing the bike together, but the shorty shocks and 16" rear wheel were killing me. I was hoping for more of a tracker/desert sled look. My buddy (and forum member) Rennie hooked me up with some spokes and replacement rim (among many other things! Thank you Rennie!!!).
Since the exhaust that came with the bike were completely unusable, I sourced some high pipes to slap on

Also found a cheap VM34 and put together a single mikuni conversion. A friend of mine had an old Yamaha MX80 tank collecting dust on his shop wall and he was kind enough to donate to the cause...
With the dual 19's on and some fresh rubber. It's starting to come together.
I decided to take the top end apart and see what was going on inside. It must have injested a screw as there was a large screw impression on the top of one of the cylinders and a few nicks in the combustion chamber that i smoothed out. I picked up some fresh 0.040 pistons and rings, got the cylinders honed and deglazed, and a valve job. Should seal up great!
Last week, I swapped out the head studs with the ARP studs.
I installed the cylinders using no gasket and Loctite's anaerobic sealant. I torqued the head using Motion Pro's torque wrench adapter which I highly recommend. I installed the head as well and then started piecing things on such as the carb, oil lines, exhaust, etc.
I really wanted a clean look under the tank, so I removed the front tank/coil mount and moved the coil back at the battery box mount. This is how she looks as of last night. Still much to do: finish off the gear box, install the clutch, build the rear wheel guts, etc etc...
