New Front Brake Kit

I don't regularly look at this forum, dunno why? But anyway, this brake set up looks interesting. I am curious about a couple items however. It looks like the caliper is not a regular (Brembo, Nissin, etc) item, but rather a custom made job. Are the brake pads readily available?

I've got a '73 as my "daily" rider and am working on a Mk3 for my wife. I seem to remember reading somewhere that if you reverse the front hub to move the brake, you need to stake the wheel bearing holder so it won't unscrew.
 
I ordered up the replacement master cylinder only to use with the stock Lockheed caliper and am exicted to see how ti works. Much more economical than replacing the stock master cylinder. :mrgreen:

All, I have this kit in my shop, it came from "madass140". Everything, including shipping, communication, payment etc. went very smooth and rapidly with him.
As a disclaimer, I do not know him and have never dealt with him before. He has a perfect rating on Ebay, and my research into the product showed only positive results.
I have not installed it yet, that will happen sometime in mid-January. The quality of all the parts is excellent.
Once installed, I will post on the resulting performance. I will use the stock system as a comparison. By that time these are the things that will have been completed on the bike: rebuilt the front forks with longer bushings, replaced the fork springs, replaced the pads in the caliper, and rebuilt the Master Cylinder. So the stock Norton disc system will be functioning well (the bike didn't orignally have a disc). The front tire will be a new Avon 26 and the wheel will be balanced, steering head bearings replaced and steering dampener functioning.

calipers are made by Tokico Japan , same as used on many Kawa and Suzi models , pads are readily available and I will always have stock of pads.
 
WOW, I have nothing but GOOD things to say about Mr. madass. :D Ordered up parts from several companies on the 9th of December and what got here FIRST, TODAY the 12th, From HALF WAY AROUND the WORLD ?? Yep you got it, the Front brake master cylinder kit that will save me lots of money and make my bike have much better brakes.

I put on the madass master cylinder this evening and it fit perfect and looks great. Bled the system and it seems to be functioning as planned. Pictures and test ride to come. 8)

I will take some pictures of the install this weekend. :mrgreen:

How much for this kit including shipping to US? Does the master cylinder have switch for brake light?
 
$650 +$100 shipping, yep your standard brake switch wires will push on to the brake switch spades

From the looks of that kit, twice the price would still be a bargain.
 
As good as it looks in the photo, in looks and WORKS even better on the bike. I can't think of a better upgrade for a Commando. In stock form they already have lots of go, but are a little light on stopping power.

thats a good idea, thats what some have been doing.
Regarding being easy, not sure how you come to that conclusion, it would mean, casting a new slider,with different machining proceedure, a new lower hose bracket, new hoses, not to mention I dont do a mastercylinder for MK3's.
"easy" go for it.

See page 4 of this thread. I fitted the kit to my MK3 including adapating the Mastercylinder to the MK 3 throttle and switch gear.
It wasn't too bad of a job, about half a day or so as I recall. The photos are there on page 4.

You have something against those of us with MKIII? I sent you a PM a while back about this and you were very short and not very informative...I guess those with the money are more important.

I do not understand why you would need a new casting for the slider. Didn't Norton just take the right one and switch it to the left side originally? Maybe I'm wrong, but if people are mounting yours on the right, seems like it would work...so you need a longer brake hose. Maybe I am stupid and just don't get it, but am making my own system for my bike because all the alternatives are too expensive and you don't seem interested.
 
No Dennis , norton didnt just change the fork slider from left to right, the MK3 left slider is a completely different casting. I may be a dumb cunt but from my angle its not viable for me to produce parts that I believe
wont sell in at least small volume, Dennis, have you any experience in manufacturing the parts you would like????

I've been a manufacturing engineer for 40 years and understand the process. I think what your telling me is there is a difference in the machining process because I don't see a difference in the casting itself. I don't want to turn this into a thread to rip each other. I just felt like you didn't really give a dang about my questions. Obviously you can sell more kits to pre MKIII bikes and that is how your comments and answers come across. Very short and you basically told me to figure it out myself...which I did. Not good business because someday you may want to expand your offering or sell something else that all of us could use. You acted like I was "bothering" you. Sorry if my questions didn't fit what you are trying to sell. Go make money on the rest of the board...I hope your customer service is better than your sales approach tho.
