Needing.

Funny that as the demands of transmission fluid are extreem in terms of pressure, temp etc.

For Hewland to recommend it in diffs and gearboxes, they did when I ran FF, shows the pedigree.

Just because google he say no doesnt mean you cant. As I said it works well in gearboxes and I
wondered if it would work in engines. It is sad that we now are scared of working outside the box
and rely on the good old interweb. From a personal view I know there is a lot of crap talked about chain
and indeed put the phone down on a guy from one of the UKs main sellers of chain because of the
bollocks he was spouting about "motorcycle" chain. We nowadays take the hype given to us by dealers
and the media regarding all sorts of products as gospel.

Rant over

Andy :D :D :D :D :D :D

Sorry needling but the drawing is nowhere close, I have one. In my workshop manual but it won't load in photo bucke.t just now. When I get it going I will start a new thread.

Cheers J

What's to challenge? You using ATF in your primary? A link to ATF data?

Your choice to use it...data is boring anyone can do a search

the dexron friction improvers have NOTHING to do with bearings & bushings but the type of friction materiel used in the clutch plates. the type F was formulated way back when Ford used bronze clutch plates and was an old hot rodders trick with organic plates as it made the apply more aggressive. ATF has been in use in manual transmission for a while with the T5 being one of the first, one of the reasons was it used organic cone clutch's instead of brass balk rings in the syncro's.

The Dextron ATF has friction improvers that can assist bearings and bushes if you choose to use an ATF in a manual gearbox.
One of the last things you want is friction improvers in the primary case should any Dextron ATF get on to the clutch plates.
ATF Type F is suited for primary drive as it does not have the 'improvers' of Dextron.

what I run has NOTHING to do with your comments as to ATF and what the types are foras it is apparent you have no clue about ATF. the only thing you got right is it is NOT an engine oil.

Hi Bill.
What goes in your gearbox and primary case and why and how have you arrived at that choice? i.e. in your Norton Commando.

To answer your question about what I put in my primary...I choose to put air in there. I'm sorry I don't have a forced cold air breather on there that routes through the crankcase and out the exhaust tho :D
