PS: we are yet to see any evidence of "Reports of decades of tests..." or the actual tests of oil coolers that quote suggests exists. Gossip or rumour or "old wive's tales" are not evidence and certainly not scientific.

Your leg against the oil tank is very scientific

Yep, empirical evidence to support the FACT that the thermostat and cooler functioned as expected i.e. the tank oil maintained at max. 85°C did not get hotter and hotter during the day and my skin was not burned. Exhaust gas temperature during tuning aimed for 620°C while head temperature behind rosette 480°C. Not convinced? Prove me wrong - Replicate the day, the trip and leg placement without a cooler and let me know how you get on.

Yes, you are right and everyone else is wrong. Another so called "expert".

Sorry Needling

I will rephrase the question. Are there any specific areas of wiring on a norton commando that you think it is appropriate to use spade terminals on?

J
Reason I ask is there are a shit load on a new wiring loom.

You better throw that away. Won't work. Spade terminals are all wrong and worthless according to Needle Ling. :D

Sure glad he set us all straight before we did something stupid.

Owning Nortons and any other bikes for that matter, we all become so called experts, we all do things diffretly to others, so why knock them, like I have said before, here in Australia we ride in some very hot weather and i am a big beleiver of running a oil cooler and my bikes just runs better with them, take new Triumphs twins (Bonnies, Thurxtons etc) they all come with big oil coolers from the factory, must be a reason for that.
I just did a quick round trip from Brisbane to Townsville on my Triumph Thruxton (4 day trip, 2 days on the road and 2 days drinking) 3,000ks all up (15 hours ride time each way) and riding in temps up to 38c (summer has just started here), I wish I had a cooler for my leather jacket, it was so hot riding in the day.

it comes down to HOW you may go about communicating whatever it is you may be trying to get across,

get that wrong alone, and you are toast end of story

plus

if you are new, best to to tread lightly, end of story

Thank you Needling

The content of your last two posts did not have the relevant information I was expecting but that is ok. I am going to tidy up the wiring on my 69 bike as it is very untidy and although working I think it could do with some updates. I am not the best at electrics so a thought a few tips from old time commando men might help me out a bit, but I do have a good few workshop books and a multi meter so I'll give it a good go............ Frying tonight, hope not.
