I kick mine on the sidestand all the time, where's the harm?

Snapping the sidestand bolt?

Exactly how does standing on the kickstart, which is on the opposite side of the bike to the sidstand put any abnormal load on the sidestand bolt :?:
It actually unloads the sidestand.

Most people when using the sidestand to start it will actually stand on the peg and kick with the other leg. This jumping up and down will snap the bolt. If you are putting the left leg on the ground then why have the sidestand out at all? If you have your left foot on the peg you will eventually break the bolt because of the leverage forces.

The oscillations at the fender and tail pipe are the image stabilization on the camera.
Maybe someone can help me with embedding?

Who ever did that, Thank you.

It would seem far easier/simpler to just sit/stand astride the bike and kick with the right leg/foot in my opinion-as left foot kicking from the right side (or even kicking with right foot from the right side) seems like an awkward way to do it to me?

Would you also do that if you stalled in traffic?

I've been trying to to kick from the side with my right leg. I just haven't gotten it down yet. I'm sure I will eventually.

As stated "in the spirit of to each his own" means it is simply my preference. It's easiest for me, it's what i like to do, it feels right to me, could give a crap what anyone else does,.....you know, to each his own.
Do I do it in traffic? You mean like if i were to stall or something? You mean to tell me that really happens? Or if that this is the only way i know how to do it? Brother, please!

That explains my confusion, I only use the sidestand from off the bike.

When I wasn't so old and fat I used to do a bit of a hop, then bring my weight down on the kick start while extending my leg. It worked great. Now I am fat enough that I don't have to hop...good thing too. :?

OK, calm down.

I started my 69 on the side stand for 10K miles in the 70's and early 80's, using the old pin with the 2 circlips. Never had a problem, I've still got the pin, but have replaced it with a bolt and nylock for safety. The pin is not worn.

I'm not sure what people are doing to wear these pins/bolts out, but if the Norton starts, it's easy, like pv shows you it can even be started in your zorrys with the left leg, not that I can do it. Maybe it's just what you get used to, kind of like carrying pairs of 12' pieces of sheet rock, once you get the routine, you just do it.

I may try pv's method, I get tired of my right leg with bruises on the upper calf from the iso nut.

Jordan, when you get finished and things are working, it's a lot easier to push through when you have ignition. I worried about that too. Without ignition, it's like a brick wall.

That was almost as awkward as starting a Bultaco.

Starting my Rickman/Montesa is a piece of cake, standing on the left side, kicking with the right. I can do it sitting on the bike, but it kicks back sometimes and, well, ouch.

Do that on a 350 Bultaco and you'll break something, like a leg.

Warning - temporary hijack alert.

Hey, I'm 67 and start it easily by standing on both pegs to start with and then the right foot on the kick start, just over compression and then WHAM, it's started. If everything is working right, it's a pushover. I never could do that thing from the side.

Jeeze Dave what happened to the young bloke in the photo on the right of your post?
I get the impression you've owned this bike quite a while.

Hijack over.

Josh I was about to call the cops! I thought some old bugger was trying to steal Dave's bike.
