Mobil One Quality?

Engine oils intended for diesel truck engines still have all the additives that have been removed from car and bike specific oils, as service intervals for commercials are far longer than those common on cars and bikes. Discounting all the hype about synthetics being superior, something like Shell Rotella is still a very good choice for any air cooled bike motor, costs less than synthetics which means more regular oil changes can be carried out for less money.

API designations are followed very carefully, except when they aren't. V Twin does have much higher amounts of zinc and phosphorous than the SJ classification specifies. This list is current as of 10/2011.

There are precedents, they are in the ZDDP section. Castrol and Redline also sell 'exceptions'. Amazing.

I have used Phillips Aviation Multivis, 20w50, in HDs and Nortons for years with good results. Made for an air-cooled engine (aircraft) and to some pretty high standards. More per qt than Autozone recycled oil, but one helluva lot cheaper than $60-80 for Mobil 1 Vtwin. Yes- you do have to change it every now and then.

Any others using the Phillips?
