Mikuni air filter interference

Has anybody been successfull fitting something other than the K&N RC-1250 air filters onto Mikuni VS 32's? I tried the modifications to the filter shown on the oldbritts site and it's a pretty crappy fit, rubs on the frame. The carbs on my 70 model seem to sit higher and closer to the frame rail than the ones shown in their picture. There may be a way to fab a box or something but it's mighty tight. Any ideas on how to fit a filter?

I had the same problem in the early 80s when I tried twin mikunis on my '73 750. I didn't find a solution and went back to Amals, stock air box and K&N air filter (large).

I went to foam filters. They are black and blend in better with the bike. I like the perfromance of the Twin Mikunis and have learned to live with the foam filters.

You could make a foam filter any shape you wanted with some hardware store mesh to back it up and couple pieces of alloy for ends. I did that years ago and ran it for several years.

I was looking at your picture. I was curious as to how you plan to run your fuel lines. My carbs are the same as yours. They appear to have a different fuel line setup than those carbs on the main screen that shows up when you log on. I believe it is the second picture down. From what I can tell from the picture is that it looks like the fuel connection is on the bottom of the carb, not on the side. Just curious as to what you had in mind.

I was going to use this manifold from oldbritts. Reckon you'd need a 90 looking down on the carb.

I ended up using 2 ea. 5/16 brass tees and hose that i picked up at Napa. Not as clean looking as what you plan to use but it looks essentially the same. It took awhile to cut everything to the right length.
