Very nice piece of kit, must say. While the instructions are rather light, the maney drive is steel rather than alloy, so I'm curious if that has something to do with his 3/4" cold belt slack suggestion, also no prescription for angling the mainshaft outboard. Still awaiting dual lollipops from RGM as well as new fangled plastic, lube impregnated swinging arm bushes to get it all back together. But looking forward to a leakless commando!

I have had a leakless Norton for 40 years now and I am still running the chain in my primary :D

Ashman has one the most long lasting perfect runing Commando records and he has shown us how oil tight its been for so long most every fastener has rusted, which is badge of honor to me having seen this happen in 2 my Combats and clean wheel coat does not stay on but a season or so with engine heat I found. I do not think ashman has used the fancy flapper valves either, which implies his ring sealing is very good as well.

I think I have just been lucky I surpose, I have had a few minor leaks and a few gaskets fail over time but I alway replace or fix when it happens, my crank cases have never leaked and all outer screws have been replaced with allen head screws back in the 70s, a lot of poeple over tighten the primary case nut which will make it leak and my tappet covers have the silcon rubber gaskets with stag goo on the studs and anything with copper washers usualy get replaced after been undone, I am also good at making gaskets and have a good pile of gasket material in my workshop for any problems that maybe needed, I have a auto timing chain ajuster so very rare i take my timing case off, the gear box I have never had any problems there as I don't over fill my gear box, I stopped using the filler cube in the gear box for level a long time ago as I found it overfilled the gear box, I measure all my gear and primary oils with a measure cup, as for the primary oil don't go over 7 fl onces (between 5 and 7 fl ounces is enought to splash the chain).

So no real secrets here, just make sure all surfaces are clean and flat and with fingers crossed it won't leak.

Acadian,
I hope you enjoy it. I have a maney in my 74 850. Its running strong with about 21000+ miles on it.
Make sure it runs true (engine running and Primary outer case is off for a look see) and not riding on either side of the PTO rim. Keep it loose. When things heat up the belt tightens quite a bit.
Cheers,
Tom
