Ok chaps, what on Earth am I doing wrong here? I removed the clutch centre from the Norvil clutch drum, after removing the circlip on the back side.

I then inserted it into the Maney clutch drum and got this situation below. The centre does not protrude through the back.

Could one of you fine fellows, or fellowesses, who have fitted a Maney belt drive please point out the blindingly obvious that is currently eluding me?

Hi, after looking at mine ,the bearing doesnt seem to be seated properly because its held in by a circlip and the groove isnt visible on yours. there are two circlips one on the outer race and one on the clutch center.

Yes, as noted, the bearing is not fully seated, there should be a large circlip retaining the OD of the bearing in the hub itself, the smaller circlip on the center should then be accessible

edit: be sure to support the inner race of the bearing when pressing the center through, I replaced both the bearing and center in mine and it was a hella tight fit

Indeed, thanks gents, you are quite right.

At least it’s an easy, almost blindingly obvious, resolution !

We all have those moments... who'd have thought that the primary side footrest on a 1970 A65 would be left hand thread? Not me, the timing side sure isn't... but in making this discovery I sheared the head off the bolt!

Nigel, I hope you are putting in one of the non wearing clutch centres from John Snead ?????

Would that be the ones that Matt sells?

No I’m not, not this time at least as it wasn’t in my plan and ordering one now would hold things up. I have ‘shed time’ currently, so need to make progress while I can!

Are they good?

You can leave your Norton in my shed anytime Nigel , no charge , even use the table and tools .....

That’s awfully kind of you Craig. Actually I have a shed, small but very nice, complete with heating and a dehumidifier to keep things nice. My problem is finding enough time to spend in it.

Have to make hay while the sun shines...

Just trying to lighten up a bit of a frustrating day , yes I believe I saw a photo here of your proper work space .... and yup bike work time can be hard to squeeze in this time of year ...

Nigel yes they are, John Snead sent me one to test in the race bike.
Due to the way they are treated, it looks like rifle bluing.
After many races and lots of km.s on the one in the road bike, the bluing disappears, but not a hint of notching.
Have convinced a few mates its the way to go.
Regards Mike

I’ve got one on the way.

You’ve caused me another delay...!
