Read a lot of the postings. I would like to get opnions on the LED that has the best "origional" lught pattern and fits inside the stock headlight reflector on a 75 Commando

The original reflector does not take an H4 bulb. You will have to contact Paul Goff for one of his LED's that suit the original reflector.

The 5k Lumin LED looks good. Seems like a PIA to order from England. I wonder if there is a supplier in North America? I have a sealed beam LED on my 75 now but the pattern is not that good and the high beam failed riding home from the White Mts. last year. They replaced it but I have no confidence in it anymore.

I have ordered from Paul before (shipped to Canada), was not painful at all.

Walridge Motors may carry his stuff as well - maybe someone can confirm, but I believe I read that some where.

Or you can go the Amazon route: get a DZG bulb, and a H4 reflector.

I STRONGLY recommend Paul Goff, the stuff he sells WORKS WELL, no chance of cheap junk like on ebay. Fast shipping, quality parts.
Just because something is sold on eBay, that doesn't mean it is poor quality. You have to do some home work.

Although I can't really tell the quality of the LED, the reflector looks top notch and definitely throws a good beam pattern.

Not sure what Paul is selling now, but there are newer style bulbs with a shield over the LED to improve the beam pattern. Have not tried them in a round style lens, but they work great in my FJR. Nice sharp low beam cutoff.
Eventually I will try them in my Commando, also not sure if they are polarity sensitive. Since I have relays it won't matter to me, but might be an issue to someone else.

Plenty of variants on these newer bulbs.

Just figured I'd muddy the waters a little more for you Dan. ; )
BTW beautiful part of the country you live it.

Pete

EDIT;

If you don't mind the look this is what I use in my 1978 Gold Wing

Some MK3 s, mine included, came with an H4 halogen light fitted .

On the other hand, if it did come with an H4, the lens will be 56 years old and will probably have gone milky.
In that case the link Derek provided in another thread will get you a nice new lens and h4 type reflector housing for not much $.

I have the round H-4 reflector type headlight shell that also has the opening for the pilot bulb. I am going to go LED on the pilot light too. Just nee a good LED headlight and pilot LEDS. Watts good on eBay? (pun intended)

Varies with the moon phase, I trawled through all the listings and bought the one with the highest lumens. Seemed to work.
Well, the moon is in the Seventh House
And Jupiter aligns with Mars, so I had to order the bulbs from Paul Goff. Will post a light pattern if I can post photos here.

I will be using this to make sure I have enouth power for my 29 watt base layer. Riding back from the INOA Rally in Virginia, a few years ago, we started our last day in Pittsfield MA, heading to the coast on the Mohawk Trail, about 150 miles. It was the middle of July and the tempreture was 52 degrees and I was wearing my Vanson perforated/vented leather jacket. 52 degrees at 65 mph, not good. We had to stop and buy heavy gloves and stuff newspapers under our jackets. The base layer heated shirt has shrunk a bit since then. I am running with the Boyer Micro Digital ignition.

Amazon LED headlight bulb and reflector less than $50 for both. Amazon LED indicator bulbs with Goffs LED flasher and LED Turn indicator warning light tweaker.

They all work very well in the garage. I really don't like a sharp cut-off on low beam. Need to see beyond the cut-off to avoid those tricky deer.
