About 5 years ago I was overtaking a cyclist on the wide part of the Corby bypass. Not over the speed limit. 2 lanes, I was in the RH lane. Just as I drew level he veered into my lane, running up to traffic lights. They were red. I was already slowing and slammed hard on my brakes and just avoided contact. At the lights, I stopped behind him and he threw his bike down on the road and started hitting my side window with his bike tyre pump. The lights changed. I stepped on the gas, misjudged it and rode over his rear wheel. I drove off. As he ran after me. Not sure what I could have done different (apart from missing his back wheel). Wasn't intentional though, it was a bit tight to get round him. I'm very wary of cyclists now..
Where I now live is near some holiday caravan parks. They've just lowered the speed limit from 40 to 30, to be safer for cyclists. This summer I came round a blind bend to be met by yoofs on 4 electric scooters, 4-abreast coming straight at me. I was stationery by the time they just missed me. They just carried on. All a game.
I'm hoping I get a 'grumpy old git' sweater for Christmas.
