Oh, I got a question for you nortonists : I ordered some spares before my first opening at Norvil's, but I wondered what was the general feeling about them, as I received a Gearbox cover of poor quality supposed to be an Andover Norton Genuine ?

There have been several discussions about vendors. I would not order from Norvil unless I was forced to.

Unfortunately Andover doesn't have a very good packaging program. I'm not saying that the part was labeled by the dealer as Andover but really wasn't, but Im just saying...

Well Joe is a user of our forum, would he care to comment?
Having said this, I realise that he can't answer every query, but if xpongebob can be more specific as to what was "poor quality" then......?

All the An parts I have received have been packaged very good and clearly marked. I mostly order from RGM and OldBritts. A few from the local shop and a smattering of other vendors. I have never had an issue with a genuine made and packed AN part.

Well, I don't want to start any polemic, but here are some pics :

I ask Norvil and they are okay to change it. I'm not complaining, am just asking as this "world" is really different from my usual network for ordering parts (as cmsnl.com )

I'm not sure where I put my records yet but Maney cases are about 10 lb heavier, maybe 12, but his clylinderl is about 8 lb lighter than the Norton ones so about a wash if you get Al cylinder and some and then a 4-5 lb lighter crankshaft, especially the 920 or 1007 cc versions as bore walls are thinner and some case cut away. Toss in Jim's piston/rod/cam and lifters kits then upgrade to ITT gearbox to handle the power and can't hardly beat that combo with a $10,000 bill if they still issued those. But on top that worthwhile to spend another 5grand on processing these items with custom shaping and tempering and surface treatments and fastener-thread beefing. Don't foreget there's 175 hp capable EFI for extra kix too. That'd be a pretty good power unit, so on to the re$t of bike to bring it up out of Norton dark ages.

Best bang for the bux would be fix the cases and uise skilled tedium to fix any un-sealling distortion - slap on a Fullauto head with hot cam and Jim's carbies, then drill/cut or replace steel with Al where ya can and toss off the rest.

Of course lightest tubeless wheel conversion may give as good or better joy than all the above. Best put em all in one bike.

I must say, I wouldn't be over too happy with all of the holes either.

I think you've proved your case.

The question is then, are they genuine A.N.? I wouldn't like to guess.

I've looked up "polmic".....you learn something everyday.

I suppose then that your dispute in the first instance is with Norvil. You could contact them by email and send the pictures and see what their response is, and if you're not satisfied contact A.N. on the basis that they are supplied as a genuine A.N. product.

You'd be better going second hand than keep those in my opinion.

Hey Hobot, I just weighed my stock Norton cases. They weigh 14lbs 8oz, with camshaft installed. Are you trying to tell us a Maney case weighs 85% more than stock cases?

I don't know what Maney cases weigh, but common sense would dictate they are not 85% heavier than stock ones. If I'm wrong here, I apologize.

Well there are no dispute, as they engaged in changing it. I was just wondering if it was the quality I should have expected from A.N. as I don't know at all their products. But ,now, I admit this thing appeared to me as a badly cast alloy part not deserving to bear the name of Norton, that's all.

Maybe not a genuine AN part though?

Looks like it was made by a dyslexic. What ever, it's pure crap. No way I'd accept it.

I suppose as these Nortons become older we'll be seeing more of these crap reproduction parts. More people like Fullauto, Jim Comstock and Jim Schmidt are needed.

Affirmative. But again, they will change it, and I'll see what they send instead... The rest of the spares I got from them was of fair quality, but this one really disapointed me.
