Anyone else going to the Guerande /Brittany NOCRally next weekend? Weather is set fair, and I am going on the early Portsmouth ferry tomorrow ( Tuesday) to Caen, and will visit some D Day sites en route.

met a Uk couple on the ferry today who are headed there, having been at a French rally for Velocettes and Tritons three weeks ago- very keen!

Here on ‘72 Yellow Peril Combat 750, but Jan knows that as I’m in his cabin!!
Somewhat ‘exciting’ day as ‘minor’ catastrophe occurred but think I can make the ferry port on ‘total loss’ electrical system! I will be carrying spare battery and not far to go UK end - great event🙃

Big thanks to Jan for his help today as my catastrophe occurred when we were on a trip out - don’t get a new Norton and ride with an old one🙄 Still managed to return to campsite under own power - I think Jan was trying to get away from me as we ‘limped’ back at high speed!

no, I was thinking better reduce overall time….
This morning had a quick chat with “elefantrider” while viewing the largest collection of Nortons I have ever seen, outside Guerande town walls, before he left for Paris air show on business via high speed train!
Oh, and returned to my 961 Cali. to find a “best 961 “ rosette attached… result!

Minor!!!! My Alton rotor shed it’s magnets in Brittany and I rode it there😳

Anyway, long story short, after ingenius / desperate measures I travelled home on total loss electrics and finally got home this morning only 12 later than expected. Much help and goodwill from the people on the rally - we motorcyclists stick together.

For future reference if it happens to you, a Commando will run at speed for at least 8 hrs on a fully charged 20amp hr battery - no lights but I was so tired that I used the electric start still. Rotor and stator completely removed - well it worked fo me. I do love this bike - well most of it most of the time

we picked the big bits out of primary chain outside an industrial unit, and looked up a battery shop where Graham bought a back up battery for trip home, just in case. Back at rally site, he removed other alternator bits etc, with a couple of deck chair ‘ assistants’……

Glad you made it home without further problems & thanks for the update. I have rode 3hours with 14Ah battery & no charging - it is worrying at the time.
