My kids got me a nice bench grinder and a blast cabinet for Christmas. How great is that?

Making some progress...

Why just one?

The guy I got the swing from sent me one new bearing with it because that’s all he could find, so I just need one.

Nobody should break up a set, but if you have an odd single bearing, let me know.

Thanks

The swing arm I have had brass bearings in the arm. I just knocked them out and they appear to be in ok shape.

How bad do they need to be to need replacing?

They should be sintered bronze ('Oilite').

Why then, did you remove them?
The bushes/bushings should be a tight fit in the swingarm as they move with the swingarm around the fixed (to the cradle) spindle.
The swingarm doesn't pivot on the bushes if that was perhaps what you were thinking?

Without the swingarm spindle and bushes in position then it's difficult for anyone to say.

The swing arm was (is) in such bad shape, I just assumed that it would be better to have new bushings while it’s apart.

I have one new bushing, I’ll just find one more somewhere so I have two new ones or just buy a new set.

I am in the middle of my ‘73 850 restore. The frame is painted and I’m working my way around.

I have the front engine mount, but I have no idea how to remove the rubber isolastics from the inside.

I tried to hit them out, but my hammer just bounced up in the air like I was on a trampoline.

I’m sure this has been covered many times before, but my search came up with nothing that I need.

Any suggestions?

I’m enjoying my holiday time off and I’m making progress. The triple trees have the paint removed and are primed. I took the advice off of someone on this site and bought Seymour nickel spray paint and the trees are next.

Once the new blasting cabinet arrives, the engine cases, swing arm and air cleaner plates are getting blasted and painted.

This was not a bike I’m restoring, rather a frame with matching cases that I’m gathering parts for from all over the place; eBay for the small stuff and people on this site for other stuff.

I think the only thing I’m missing on the frame is the rear CUSH wheel and the small top pieces that hold the handle bars on the triple tree, and yes, the handlebars also. I just picked up a center stand, correct head steady and a trans cradle. Oh yeah, I need the pegs and the gauge holders. The search continues!

One of the members here is holding a front wheel, chain guard and a tail light assembly.

I think I have everything else to complete the frame...I think.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!!

It’s amazing what you can do with a little instruction. I had no idea how I was going to remove these and now they’re out!

I removed the rubbers and the interior ones just fell apart and turned into dust...literally.

Now I’m going to search for your video on how to install new ones. I need to sand blast the mount and paint it first, but after that, it’s new ios’

Thanks again!

Please don't blast your cases with anything other than baking soda
If you bead blast them etc you will never be able to remove all the glass beads

Thanks baz. I’ve been told that and that’s what I’m planning on using. I was also told to wash them well in water after blasting.
