With no response to the above question I called Central Wheel and got a list of their US and Canadian suppliers. I didnt check them all, but prices were around $150 for the stainless rims, same as at Central.
The Central rep would not disclose country of origin for the stainless rims (I thought this was a requirement most places?)
They proudly advertise their alloy rims as coming from Morad of Spain, their Elite chrome rims as coming from the UK, so Im thinking the SS rims are either from China or India.
I ordered the alloy Morad from Central in WM3. It is approximately 2 lbs lighter than steel or SS. Two lbs reduction in rotating weight at the rim is substantial.
Just by geting rid of the heavy old dinner plate stock disc I felt a new lightness in the front end, another 2 pounds out at the rim will make it even better.
Next is to use Ludwigs bicycle tubes
