Ultra sonic cleaning in a weak citric and oxalic acid mix does a good job, no residue left in oilways.

Is it more gentle than the laundry? My baseball caps don't survive being washed.

My dishwasher winds and screams out loudly, thumps around and make to much noise, but she does that even washing dishes, she can't work out that the only reason I married her to wash my dirty dishes and to clean up after me lol.

I've skinned deer in my bathtub a few times because it was too cold outside, so I'd try a dishwasher for parts cleaning, if I owned one :)

    Non-abrasive vapor blasting is great.

Whatever y’all do, do NOT do what some idiot on this forum did and put cast iron barrels in a dishwasher...

Seriously, some people should not be allowed out un-supervised...

    Hi Jim,
My understanding of vapor blasting is that there is abrasive suspended in water vapor. Are you referring to a different type of vapor blasting when you recommend "non-abrasive vapor blasting"?

Just curious what happens to cast iron barrels in a dishwasher. I have a dishwasher in my shop just for parts. I never have put cast iron barrels in there but what's the worry, rust? I put oily parts, nuts and bolts, grimmy tools, set it on pots and pans and it works well. No aluminium parts as they turn dull, but I may try and find non phosphate soap and give it a test. Found the dishwasher in a thrift store, "No way to test- $25". Couldn't pass it up as it looked unused.

Maybe non-abrasive is the wrong term, but it leaves no residue.
