Hi All,
Is the Fram Filter PH2389 a fit for the Commando?

Some guy on eBay is offering them & all I have ever used is a Champion model.
Thanks,
Stephen

You can plug in the framm number on the wix site and they will give you the WIX number. They do have one.

Wix 57013 identical to the NAPA PS7013
Also look to the K&N kn153. Order it right of their website.

A friend noticed the filter on my 850 and tried to convince me that the oil only gets filtered at low presure and tried to convince me that at normal running presure the filters by pass valve opens and the oil is no longer being filltered. Is there any truth to this? I find it had to believe.

For there to be pressure in the return line there has to be a restriction to create back-pressure, it ends in an open hole so no pressure. There are bypass valves in some filters but these work when the filter clogs and creates the back pressure, but it has to clog first.

It's the pressure differential caused by a blockage within the filter which causes the filter's bypass (if fitted) to open, and that is extremely unlikely to happen if the filter is changed at the normal service intervals.

Did you mean PH 2839? That's what RGM have supplied recently.
NAPA number here is PS7013. PH 2839 is an old Fram number and although I cannot find it, the Fram number I have found is PH6019. The K&N kn153 is top notch.

I think it is important to know that this link http://atlanticgreen.com/oilfilter.htm is over 20 years old.

20 year old info for a 37 year old bike just about balances out, right? Has anyone used a K&N ? I wonder if they are really a much better fillter for our systems? I have no trouble spending a few more smackers for something like a fillter that could add many miles to the bikes life if it works and I do use there air fillters in all my cars & but being washable they pay for themselves.

I put 13,000 miles on my 69 Commando with no filter and no problems and the sludge trap was 90% clean when I broke it down. It may depend more on how much the oil is changed or how it's used? I did install a filter recently, by the way.

I use it. Any filter that fits a 2000 Ducati 900 or 750 ss and many many more models and years, will fit and supersede any filter for a Norton. Like DogT said, oil filters on a Norton is an after thought (for the most part) although a good after thought.

This is a free flow, low bypass, anti drain back filter that has a larger capacity than most. Welded 17mm nut makes the day. It's easy to get, $13.99 with free shipping when purchased right from K&N.

I use the K&N 153s. Although in Boston, I buy them from Sir Chris Kelley in California, ca-cycleworks.com, for $12.

Why not have a threaded adapter made for your oil filter mount so you can use regular auto oil filters? I have threaded adapters on my three bikes and use a fram 3614 filter. The same filter for our 6 cyl. car at about $4.50 each. They have a by pass valve as well.

K&N 153 offers a hex nut rear end that makes tightening, and, more importantly, loosening really easy. Highly regarded for filtering as well.

Agree with Tim_S, put on the threaded adaptor and you'll open up a whole new range of inexpensive oil filter options. I use WIX filters and have the number here somewhere. I anyone is interested, please contact me and I will dig it out. CNW sells the adaptors and other places may sell them as well.

I also use an adaptor and I use FRAM 3614 oil filter (XG3614). You have a choice of 3 levels of quality with the FRAM 3614. The XG has "...synthetic blend media backed by a metal screen for uniform pleating, durability and optimum flow..."

I use them in both my Norton and Triumph with Spectro Heavy Duty 20w50 Motorcycle Oil with 1800 ppm of zinc (zddp).

With the adaptor, the WIX filter I use is 51348. NAPA sells WIX under their own name and the number is similar but not exactly the same.
