There is the typical RH4 on the head, there is also a ' T ' stamped over the opposite valve cover. Also the ' T ' is also stamped on the first lobe of the camshaft. Also I see a ' T ' on the bottom of the cylinder barrels between the cylinders. The bike is all numbers matching. What does the ' T ' stand for ?
Thanks.

I have the same head and barrels and would love to know what ( T ) stands for.

Have a '74 and it just rattles along. No T anywhere except the tyres.

Sorry....couldn't help myself.

MK III's were known to have soft cams, it could have taken down to change the cam. I have seen motors that have been stamped after rebuilds. I just thought it have been done to your motor.

I/we have 2 RH4 heads. Purchased from Ebay. Both have "T" stamped somewhere, I would have to look where. Perhaps it means it was built after "Tea Time" Which means they should be OK. What's a sip of tea amongst friends? As long as they weren't built on a Friday after lunch, you should be OK.
The Eagle flies on Friday, Saturday I go out to play! Stormy Monday ,SM might not be so good. Should be stamped SM

"NORTON SERVICE RELEASE No. N.25 November 1970

Identifying marks on assemblies.
Worldwide (Trade Only)
From queries received we gather that our system of stamping a Factory identification symbol on certain assemblies (for example: the marking "X" on the top of the rear engine mounting boss) is causing some confusion.

We respectfully point out that such markings are purely a Factory Facility to enable us to keep track of any production changes without the need for stripping. Such markings will appear only for a limited time and then disappear whereas the feature may well continue. As such, we shall only make known the purpose of markings where we feel common knowledge is mutually advantageous..."

I've got some "Ts" here and there.
I've always thought a previous owner stamped them in as recognition marks in case of theft. As that would fit in with the last owner's initial I hadn't given it any further thought until this post.

Machine is a 750 MKIV (9th December 1971 2006**) that had been in Spain from new until 2002. It's not a UK re-builders initial though as I know that would be W and no further re-build until myself last year. Intetesting, then, that it could be a factory mark.

That T you have there is exactly the same font style on my valve cover. It seems different than the RH4 font. It must be a quality check or a certain department mark for 'their' reasons. thanks
