clutch cable fit - handlebar end

My new cable and the previous one both had a very sloppy fit between the vertical hole in the lever and the brass barrel at the end of the clutch cable. My memory isn't always reliable, but I don't remember the fit being like that back when I bought a MK3 in 1975.

On the previous cable it bothered me enough that I made my own bush from a sheet of Teflon material.

So, is (a) my memory faulty, (b) did I get a series of cables that should have been used for another model year, or (c) am I missing some sort of bushing?

What clutch cable? I had a loose one, turns out it was made incorrectly, the maker supplied the correct one.

It's a brand new one from Vehhill direct. Have no idea who made the previous one.

I guess what I'm really asking is if anyone has anything other than the brass barrel acting against the aluminum lever, or if there is some sort of bushing in between the two metals. And if there isn't anything there, how loose is the fit. I can't measure interior gaps that well, but it seems like I have a barrel that's about 1/8" in diameter smaller than the hole in the lever.

I had a problem with the sleeve, read all about it here, page 2 and three of this thread venhill-clutch-cables-t9861-15.html The barrell on the Venhill I got had a teflon wrapper to bush it up to size, you can see it in the images.

Thanks. Is the bushing the black part on the lower of the cables in the photo on the second page?

BTW, Chris at Venhill has been very responsive to me as well. I bought a tach cable back in Feb, somehow lost the spade connector and asked after one - he's sending one along gratis.

yes, that's it.

The last cable I got from Fair Spares in San Jose had the same black bushing on the end.
Not sure who made it though.
Keep it lubed and it should last but I don't like it.
