Did the bikes originally come with plastic cable ties to secure cables and wires? I ask because recently my headlight/pilot wire (the section from the control switch to the headlamp bulb, on the bars) had broken behind the cable tie and the 2nd wire (kill switch?) also had scuff Mark's there. My frame also shows signs of the paint being damaged by various cable ties. On the bars, for the time being, I added some extra sleeving over the wiring, just where the cable tie is.

In some places my Enfield 500 uses rubber or neoprene straps, which seems much kinder on the wires and frames.

There is an "original' style rubber strap for wiring management on the AN site.
On handlebars, there is a stainless clip that fits over the grey sheathed cable and around the bars.
You could try some velcro straps for under tank, less visible area. I've also got a few rubber adjustable/removable (" ball and socket" type) zip-tie alternatives which seem to work ok in some places.

850 Mk3, Group 24:

Here's the rubber tie from AN I've seen before:

Yes, that was the sort of thing. But it looks like cable ties were generally used. Maybe the wiring is getting more delicate with age? I'm going to the classic bike show in Stafford next weekend. I'll have a look for something in a range of sizes, that's in keeping.

I'm not sure where these came from but they were on my MK II when I bought it.

They're Triumph parts (97-4112).
Thanks, I'll probably order two more. One on each bar is not enough to keep the cable tidy.

They are very nice and the sort of thing I'd go for, but the mk3 has two cables on the bars. Not sure that would take them both.

I had these ordered from my local Norton parts supplier. Thought they were listed on AN's Norton parts diagrams somewhere, otherwise I would not have thought to order them.

Yes, in the Triumph section as AN also stocks Triumph parts.

(Should be x4 clips though, not x2)

But that's just it, I would not/have not browsed through the Triumph parts there. I nearly always only browse the Norton MK2 drawings but did not see these there recently. Same true for the "John Bull" rubber straps, which I know i've seen in the Norton areas in past.

Oh well, good to know where to find them.

Those clips were not used on Commandos and don't appear in any Commando parts list as far as I'm aware.

Yes, as they were used on Commandos and are listed in parts books but not as late as the 850 Mk3.

Edit: The 850 Mk1 parts drawing shows plastic ties.

Ok, I solve my mystrey, both the straps and clips are found on Eurojambalya's Norton Chassis lists and that's where I got them a few yrs back:

His parts are not strictly curated per bike make nor models, so easy to mix and match parts from different eras, makes.

Very happy with the clips, keep the switch cables nicely positioned and clips look discreet vs tie wraps.

I put my handle bar wiring inside the bars. A bit of tedious work, but cannot get any tidier. The cable entry into the bars can be seen below.

Slick

That's very neat. On a mk3 there's double the cables, so it would be a lot of holes!

I've ordered some chrome clips, to see if they work for the bars and some John Bull rubber ties for the frame.

Thanks for the suggestions.

My '74 has the metal clips. I've drawn blood probably a couple dozen times while cleaning the bike. JMWO
