Biting the bullet on charging system

@Triton Thrasher be aware that the Podtronics, Tympanium and Boyer-Bransden Power Box regulator/rectifiers are not MOSFET - they are SCR (a thyrister is only a very minor advancement in terms of miniaturization from the traditional, old-fashioned diodes)

So all the advantages of fast switching, light loading MOSFETs that you have been reading about do not apply to the most commonly implemented and best selling units.

The Shindengen series-type regulator/rectifier is SCR-based too, but it doesn't short the coils in the alternator when charge is not required it instead opens that side of the circuit.

Running an alternator at full load is very different to running an alternator that is shorted out.

I feel like we're going round in circles on this, and most people are probably fed up with my posts, so this is another thread I give up on.

Some of us have to read things multiple times for it to sink in, even though we may not ask, we are reading.
I pretty much had a handle on it, but that explains it a little more clearly.

Thanks....

Grant , pretty sure all your posts here are much appreciated , especially by folks like me still dwelling in the Stone Age !

Grant, your posts are very much appreciated. You changed my view and I’m now a proud Shindengener !
