As the title suggests, I’d appreciate input regarding the best open face helmet and goggles combination for spectacle wearers.

I’ve had a Davida helmet and some Aviator style goggles, both designed for spectacle use, for years and they’ve served me well. However, recent eye surgery has made my right eye very sensitive to wind, and my current set up basically leaks too much wind.

I seem to have a Shoei compatible head shape, but am open to any suggestions.

And… please open another thread if you want to start an ‘open face vs full face‘ cat fight…!

I have had eye surgery too so am sensitive to wind.
I have found a successful combination (there are a variety of Davida helmets and Aviator goggles) to be the Davida Ninety 2 with the Aviator T2 goggles. Obviously whatever glasses you're using need to fit comfortably within the goggles, but, works for me.
Cheers

I recently got a Nolan open face helmet which comes with integral drop down sun shield and a bubble front. So I’ve got facial coverage from wind and rain and full vision through my specs. I do realise it isn’t ‘safer’ ‘as good as’ etc. of my full face ACU tested helmets, but it is my choice for now

Now then, interesting that you mention the drop down sun shield idea, I’ve been looking at these options, particularly the Shoei JO. What’s the sunshield like? I had imagined a lot of wind gets around it and into the eyes?

Too bad you are not an Arai head... great with specs.
Which do you use?

And with which goggles?

Arai‘s have always seemed too short front to back for me, resulting in lack of chin space. That might not be the case with an open face though I guess…

Problem solved for now, bought some Ethen Scrambler goggles. They’re a ski / mx style with really thick soft foam that makes them fit the head well. They fit my 20+ year old Davida well too.

Better visibility and much reduce wind leakage. They have photo chromatic lenses too which is a bonus !

Might still looking at a Shoei JO at some point though.

I find it to be of assistance against turbulent air as it drops very close to my cheeks and nose

Good looking googles.

If Shoei fits your head, that is what you need to go for. They are too narrow for my round head shape. Arai and Shoei lids dont mix.

A 20+ y.o. lid... just sayin...

Went to a motorcycle clothing specialist today to look at helmets and guess what… I didn’t realise just how crap, and frankly dangerous, my 20 yr old Davida really was until I tried on a new Shoei JO… which I bought.

You can relax now Gortnipper… !

Another vote for the Shoei JO, I bought one approx 3 years ago, the best helmet I ever had.

They are a bigger shell than the Davida though.

My missus reckons it makes me look like this…

Best open face helmet and goggles combination for spectacle wearers?

Hi Nigel I am really very pleased with the JO I definitely recommend. I use the sun visor really only for sun as I have a Davida visor as well which is better for wind/ wet/ bug protection.
You can see both here.
The combo is less noisy than my Shoei Neotec full face with opening front.

Best regards Martin

Nice set up. What’s that Davida visor? I can’t see that on their web site…

Thanks, but unfortunately it seems like it’s no longer available.

My most-used helmet is a Schuberth M1. It is 'open face' yet offers some side chin protection, has built-in audio which works and an easy flip-up visor giving fantastic all-round vision. Build quality is excellent. It might not have the classic look of my Davida but is the most practical helmet I have; very highly recommended.

+1 I have a Shoei JO TC1, great lid and nice paintwork…

Years ago I had an open face helmet which had a clip on face shield, but open face helmets got banned for racing. Poking the arms of you glasses over your ears in a full face helmet is a pain. I think the clear visor on my old open face helmet would not have stopped much wind. With goggles you always have the problem of getting the front part to fit into the helmet properly.
