Are full face helmets really safer than open face helmets

I been riding since the 74 and helmets were compulsory then, well in my state of Queensland anyway and think most other states were as well except for one or two states.
This was in 1985 mostly riding in NSW without helmets but some in Queensland never once got stopped
We rode the coast from Adelaide up to Rockhampton ,went out to the barrier reef whilst we there

Yeah had one of those old bell full face back in the 70s, bloody heavy and made a good side stand for the bike as well, when I built my Commando/Featherbed back in the early 80s it didn't have a stand at all for over 25 years, always leaning on a wall, fence, post and yes sometimes my helmet, it now has a clamp on side stand, in the early days side stands just got in the way of pushing the Featherbed to it limits in corners lol.

You were lucky then days of Joh and the Queensland police force when the police ruled everything and brown paper bags were coming to a end.

Cheers , been worried about side stands . I remember it well , now .

One for the road .

Slight derail here - but a short one ;)
The lack of sidestand on your bike could mean that the frame was from an early slimline twin. They didn't have side stands because only the LH carb had a floatbowl (Monoblocs - RH was "chopped" to fit), meaning if the bike was leaning on a sidestand the RH cylinder would starve and run excessively lean (if at all).
Cheers Ash

I think IOM TT competitor Paul Jordan would definitely have an opinion on full face over open lids after his recent bird strike..

He was very lucky indeed. It went through his visor broke his nose, two black eyes and a mouthful of guts apparently.
